My mother used to be an MRI tech (granted this was years ago) and they turned people away from time to time due to tattoos. Even if you wouldn't have an adverse reaction, I'd hate to have a necessary medical diagnostic tool not be used because the tech (unknowing/misguided or not) didn't think it was safe. Just something to think about. I knew people in college who got tattoos and I guarantee you they didn't put half the thought/effort into it that you did, minty. I am sure they didn't ask about metal in the ink or even know about the MRI issue. I know someone who got eyeliner tattoo and a tattoo in her brow (to fill in a scar) in Mexico. How much do you want to bet she didn't know/think about the MRI issue?! Just something to consider/think about. I think tattoos can be really beautiful. I am gunshy due to the MRI issue. And also, because I don't think I could EVER trust ANYONE to get a design 100% right. I am too much of a perfectionist. I'd find some small thing and obsess about it. I'll stick with the birthbarks etc. to worry about for now

Gorgeous tattoos everyone! I just love hearing the stories behind them. Does anyone have any ideas on how to elaborate my horseshoe idea? All the flash and stock photos are completely not what I'm looking for, so looking online hasn't helped me much ... |

vxf111 I couldn't agree more that to many people get tattoos without doing the proper research. It drives me and any good tattoo artist insane. Nauset - For the horse shoe idea... If there is a particular horse you really connected with you could use the horse shoe as a picture frame and find a really good portrait artist to put the horse's head inside the shoe. You could put wording around the shoe or some sort of design. Ummm, yep, that's it, I'm outta ideas for now. LOL, there's a reason there is a long time between most of my tattoos. It takes me awhile to figure out exactly what I want to do. |

Take the flash you find online to a tattoo shop, any decent artist will modify what you bring and most of them enjoy the challenge! I use the flash on the walls of the shop or online only for a basic idea, then ask the artist to change it for you and add/subtract/modify. E |

For years I have been talking about getting a tattoo. Some of our friends have lovely ones and there are beautiful ones posted here. But now that I am older, and a bit puffier and saggier than I used to be ( ), I just can't think of a place that one would look good anymore. One friend of ours (she is a musician) has a beautiful full sleeve, colourful and intricate, and I love it. On her. On me? not so much. I'm still thinking about it though. Maybe if I lose 20 lbs?

Okay, so I can't go until I have some extra cash... but I'm going to go soon. I'm thinking a horseshoe with a decorative scroll going diagonally behind/through it ...... from the left down to the right .... not tribal like, more pixie dust like. ... does that make sense? It's kind of hard to describe what I see in my mind. Thanks for the suggestions!! |

I'm up to 4 tattoos now and I love 3 of them. I'm going to have the artist that did my fourth do some work on the third and then it will be perfect. I'll post photos when I get a few. My newest is 10 days old and a line drawing of a sighthound-ish looking dog. The whole picture isn't complete, but the dog is there and I love her. (she is my beloved Kinsella, with me forever now) |

I am a critical care nurse. I have taken patients with tattoos to MRI before. Don't really remember it being an issue, but guess it could be. My main concern is when the tattoos cover areas on the skin where procedures need to be done--surgery, iv line placement, etc. Makes it very hard to place on iv if the arm is covered with ink. It also makes it hard to assess the iv site for phlebitis which can be dangerous. I have considered getting a tattoo myself, but like Fred not sure where I could put it at my age. If I had cute ankles I would probably put it there. |

I have a martini glass with a revolver resting in it. Only problem is the liquid in the martini glass looks more like a midori than a martini. |
