Can anyone think of some kind of equipment that would protect a horse's eyebrow area? My horse was frolicking in the sand ring, lost his footing and slid to a stop: right into a fence post! He broke his eyebrow bone (don't know correct term). He is healing nicely, but is in dire need of some turn out time. I would like to protect the site of his injury as much as possible until it is fully fused. I don't think blinkers would do the trick, do you? Can you think of anything at all? Thanks in advance. |

I bet the lingering pain while it is healing would be decent protection! |

How about an old noseband and browband with a fleece tube over the browband? |

Easy, a padded bra, with one cup cut out for his good eye..... Stuff the other bra cup with padding to keep his bad eye protected. I got this idea from a race horse trainer, who used a bra on a horse that had an eye injury. His horse was a 36B. |

Could you sew or glue foam padding into into the right area of a fly mask? |

I second the eye cup or 3/4 cup (blinkers). I had a pony that had to have her eye removed and she went out in modified 3/4 cup blinkers for about 3 weeks. It protected her stitches and from her rubbing. Every barn should have a set of blinkers. You never know what might happen to an eye. Just good measure, especially for turnout.

I just ran into this at he EquiFair at Spruce. I think it's brilliant but I"m going to wait till we have a bigger barn order (cheaper $$) to order. Dunno if it'll work as well as the old over the shoulder eyebrow holder.. but worth a look for the future? www.equifacesaver.com |

Well, at the last vet check up, the doc said that he is growing a callus under his eyelid, so that may offer some protection. Once the callus seems to have stopped growing, he will have an eye lid "lift" to make his eye lid the correct length. It is a little too long now, since his eyebrow bone was smashed in. Thanks for your ideas! |
