Thanks for all the thoughts and jingles.

I just got home from Ocala after a VERY long day....minus the Samster. Just as they were beginning induction for his surgery, they had an emergency arrive so of course Sammy took a back seat. His early am surgery did not actually begin until 330pm. :shoot: He did not get moved into the recovery still until around 645pm so he is spending the night getting a few IV antibiotic doses in. His arthroscopic surgery turned into a bit of a bigger deal and the chip had to be removed the old fashioned way. But all is well and he should recover completely....he will just need a smidge more time in the dressing change department.

Many thanks to Happy Mouth who paid us a visit and got to meet Sammy before his surgery actually began. Thanks for thinking of us and letting us put one more face to the bulletin board names. It was greatly appreciated.

Our surgeon and his team fell in love with Sammy and we are going to have a fight on our hands to actually get to bring him home..........I was a very proud mom to hear from more than one of the technicians that he is the best behaved baby they have ever had in the clinic. :one: Dr. Adams did manage to say he was very friendly and pretty much a large dog...........yes Alicia, Escapade does manage to give them a puppy dog personality.......the doctor said so.! He trailered down to Ocala like a pro and moved into the surgery barn like he'd been there before.......and immediately had the staff trained. He whinnied to them all if they dared ignore him.

So, back to Ocala I go tomorrow after work to bring him home. I'll be glad to have him back where he belongs.

I am so glad to hear the surgery went well Desilu! Sammy sounds like an absolute doll & I am glad he got so many compliments. It sounds like you may want to put a Lo-Jack on him or he may go missing! :innocent: ;) :cheer:

Great news. I have been so impressed with the temperments of the Escapades.
What a relief to have the surgery over and now concentrate on healing. What a good boy Sammy is and I love hearing how he is training the staff.
Keep up the good work Sammy!

AAAHHHHH - It feels wonderful to have him all tucked in safe and sound (well, sort of) at home. He is now a trailering pro.....loaded and unloaded like a big boy. I hear he stood perfectly still like a "big horse" to have his bandage changed this morning, we won't have to do that again until Monday. That should be a piece of cake compared to the IM antibiotics. :jaw: Love that Procaine Penicillin. <_< He's already putting weight on it and will be getting the fancy schmancy new anti-inflammatory Equinoxx for a few days.

So, once the antibiotics are done in 3 days, complete stall rest for a total of 10 days then handwalking for 2 weeks...........that should be interesting! :o

I'm so glad it's over, he recovered from the anesthesia and he is back home again. Now for keeping the infection at bay and then on to rehab............Life is good again.

Got a really cool dischage summary via email that included before and after digital XRays............gotta love modern technology.

Thanks for all the jingling...........wish us luck for the rehab. :luck:

Desilu, as well you should be proud of your baby. He is not only beautiful to look at, but a real in your pocket kind of guy. I have never seen such a totally relaxed foal in a strange place with those nasty medicinal smells. And he certainly loves his mommy and her beautiful daughter. I did suggest that she should do this nick again as Sammy, I am thinking, just might be taken over by her daughter. It was lovely meeting you also. Next time, let's not do it at the Hospital. :)

Desilu - I am sooo happy for you and Sammy. Please give him a peppermint for me!

BTW, only 12 more days until I meet the Duke. I can only hope he has Sammy's in your pocket puppy dog personality!

HM - thanks so much for the kind words about BOTH my kids. My daughter had been out of town for 3 months and already Sammy is HERS! :P

Clearound - I can not wait to hear all about you meeting Duke for the first time. If he is anything at all like Sammy - you will be trying to figure out a way to sneak him home on the plane with you!

You guys have fun (Spacely do you really think she'll notice if your house is spotless as long as she gets to see her baby?)...........but don't forget we need updates and pictures!

Sammy got his last penicillin shot tonight..............He took it much better than we did. It hurt to stick him with those big ole needles while he took it like a little man. We have changed his dressing once and his incision is dry and clean. Every other day dressing changes until his stitches come out a week from Fri.........anybody want to come take a turn handwalking the 4&1/2 month old colt who has been on stall rest for 5 weeks? :cheer:

May the force be with you hand walking him.
Do you have a quiet pony horse? I had a weanling that had surgery to remove a hair in her joint (don't ask), she was on stall rest for a long time and when handwalking began it was insane. My daughter has an ancient quarter horse mare that is a baby sitter for the weaned foals. This mare will not get out of a walk to save her life and she is so good with the young ones that it was a great alternative for handwalking the little one. I felt safer being up a little higher out of the strike zone and the pony horse would pin her ears and grunt if baby got to frisky and the filly settled down easily.
Might be worth a try if you have a reliable steady eddie to pony off of.
