Desilu, huge jingles for your boy. I am in Ocala, and if there is anything I can do just ask. Who is the surgeon? I am no more than 5 minutes from Ferguson, EMC of Ocala and Peterson & Smith. If he has to stay for a bit I will be happy to visit and check on him for you. Hugs to you, I know it isn't easy on anyone.

No news yet. FedExd the XRays down to Ocala on Friday so hopefully I should hear something tomorrow. Of course, I don't really know what to hope for. I don't know if having him be a great candidate for surgery actually gives him the best long range prognosis or not. That's the big question for me right now.

I can't wait to hear all about you meeting Duke for the first time..........that is so exciting. He really looks so special in the pictures.

Happy Mouth - I sent the pics to Dr Aric Adams at Equine Medical. He comes highly recommended and is a good friend of one of my closest friends who is also a vet herself. So now I wait and see. It would be good to know if he has to make a trip to Ocala, someone is close by to check on him for me.

Of course all this comes during the week I flew to Mass, drove to Niagra Falls, drove back to Mass, packed up my daughter, drove back to Florida (with some big help from the AutoTrain), cleaned the house, welcomed family, saw my daughter graduate from grad school (with a Masters in Occupational Therapy AND high honors), had a party that ran until the morning, said goodbye to family................and now I can breathe again.....at least until tomorrow when I should hopefully hear some news about Sammy.
:o
I'm pooped.

But, Sammy has enjoyed lots and lots of nose kisses, carrots and scritches from tons of family and friends.

Please keep your fingers crossed, even though I don't really know the best scenario. I'm confident Sammy will be none the worse for the wear no matter what.

:luck: :luck:

Thanks again for all your good wishes and positive energy.

Desilu, they are literally around the corner from me. I am happy to help in any way I can. I had my 2 year old there almost two months ago with colic surgery. Just let me know. My phone # is 352-401-0148, email is jinxy38@aol.com. Happy to do anything.

Meanwhile lots of hugs, to both of you.

Finally a Sammy update. It seems that a little arthroscopic surgery will be the best thing for the little man. This will give him the best long term prognosis and will cut down on the arthritis risk in that joint later..........So

I take him late on Thursday, surgery on Friday, home on Sat..........that's the plan and I'm hoping we stick with it! Sad to think this will be his first big adventure in a trailer.

Happy Mouth - he will be at EMC of Ocala if you want to go give his little chestnut nose a kiss while he's there! ;)

personally, this is how I feel........ :spew:

Been there...done that! It was very successful for me. Just watch for infection. What a great prognosis... I'd be glad to talk to you about this. He'll be just as good as new! This will make for a great a ringside story as we watch him jump around a 4 foot course!

Oh Desilu, I'm jingling like mad here in Pa. He'll be in great hands, go to sleep, wake up a little mixed up, be a little sore, be sleepy, be hungry, and then heal in to the lovely man he's ment to be! :( Jingle, jingle, jingle

They will not be letting him eat on Thurs, so I'll go on Friday afternoon and maybe Sat if he is still there. Where are you? If you need anything done, please let me know. Does he love bon bons? :)

SB - what happy news! Exactly what I needed and was hoping to hear. I can tell you tho', if he's going around a 4' course, it won't be ME on him! :P

MP - he's hungry all the time now! He IS a growing boy you know. ;)

HM - I'm in Jax and it's not looking like I'll be able to avoid working on Friday. It would be great to know an Auntie will go check on him.....he's partial to .......umm..........food. Haven't found anything he will refuse yet...........baby carrots are a big favorite right now.

Of course if he's anything like his mother.....When I took her to UF for her stifle diagnosis, she was a little miffed at me. And she just had stifle XRays done. My friend and I came to say goodnight to her (we left her overnight for ultrasound too) and I swear, she stomped her foot, hmphed and turned her nose up and went in the back corner. She was not going to fall for the carrots make it all better trick. If ever a mare could talk, we would not have wanted to hear what she would've said. :censored:

At least now, I feel like we have a plan. We'll get it done (carefully watch for infection - thanks SB) and let him get on with the recuperation. Sammy will be out running around before I know it........although I'm sure it's going to seem like an eternity.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

Desilu - Try not to worry too much about Sammy. From what I have seen from him, he will be none worse for the wear. As others told me last year, one of the best things about babies is that they heal fast. As SB stated, this will be nothing more than a blip on the radar when we watching Sammy jumping those four foot courses. Give him a kiss, a hug and a mint for me.
