Hello, does anyone have experience with Berney Brothers saddles from Ireland? I've only heard good things so far and was looking into getting their Dublin Show Jumper. Thank you! |

I sat in Berney Bros. workshop for hours with them, back when I was in Ireland.... Also knew a young lady who spent her summers there and won one... She loves it, loves it... |

Thank you for your reponse
I'm glad that she loves hers. I've found that they are a very good price, even with the shipping from Ireland, and I'm looking forward to ordering one within the next few months. If anyone else has anything to share about them, I would appreciate it. |

This is second hand knowledge garnered from reading the foxhunting list FOL. Apparently there are two Berney Brothers groups that make and sell saddles and one is much better than the other (according to the post I read). I don't know which is which, can only suggest you join FOL and read the archives on the subject or ask there for more information. |

Yellowbritches (she's here, but it's easier to get in touch with her on COTH) is one you want to talk to. She mentioned once that that's all that the horses at her farm go in. |

And if you're a member at COTH, send a PM to Weatherford. She lives there and could probably give up some info !!! |

Sorry to be slow in responding; I am getting our farm ready to host an eventing competition next weekend and we are in the midst of a lot of work. The easiest way to gain access to the foxhunt discussion is to put the search terms "foxhunters online" into google or other search engine; it will bring up the website for FOL and that will tell you how to join the group and/or access the archives so you can search for the Berney Brothers saddle discussions. Hope that will help your research. |

I have a BB saddle that I love - only it doesn't fit the current horse. I still don't want to get rid of it, because it's a really nice, comfortable saddle. I went on their web site, did tracings, etc., and then called them - the whole experience was worth it to talk to Mr. Berney. It was fast and, compared to anything else available, cheap. Thanks for reminding me that I could order a dressage saddle from them, when I've saved up for one. |

Yep. With the exception of my funky little dressage saddle (a County Dres Prix...hoping for a Berney's dressage saddle in the near future) all of our saddles are Berney Bros. We literally have a tack room full of them, ranging in age from nearly 20 years old to just a couple of weeks old! They are all beautiful and have all held up tremedously well. Most of our are Tom Waters cross country saddles...similar to the Dublin Jumper, but minus the solid knee roll and a tad bit more forward flap. We also have a couple of beautiful show jumping saddles (one was custom made for the boss's GF by Tom Berney...he talked the Hermes leather guys in to selling him just enough to make her saddle. It is BEAUTIFUL!), a couple of newer prototypes that are based on the TW, and a couple of dressage saddles. They are all just exceptional quality, fit a variety of horses really, really well (they are all medium trees), and last and last. They aren't the most comfy saddles for just sitting in (ie looooong trail rides or sitting hours on end by the in gate), but are well designed and put you in the right postion. The newer ones seem a bit more cushy, though still not quite as soft as other saddles. Berney Bros is great to work with, too. They will make a saddle to fit YOU for a great price (usually all they need is height, weight, and inseam, and it will fit like a glove). They can also make something that will fit your horse really well, if you have a funky shaped horse. Do some wither tracings, and they'll make it just right. These saddles are nearly indestructable. The Hermes leather show jumping saddle was RUN OVER BY A TRUCK several years ago when it was tossed out of the trailer in fear of the trailer catching fire as the truck it was attached to burned to the ground (Renn's Tipperary was along for that ride He proved what an incredibly good boy he was that night
). We were sure the saddle was toast, but sent back across the pond to see if there was anything Tom Berney could do for it. The tree was not broken...he just replaced the seat!

A few yrs ago, a girlfriend of mine bought one off of Ebay. I was impressed with it and Im a huge leather snob! I cant stand cheap leather. It was very well made and good leather for the price. The panels were a bit hard, but the saddle was a few yrs old and could use some restuffing. Otherwise, I would not be against buying one. |
