I've been using hot tape and plastic poles to keep Gracie on one side and Gunner on the other. It's working well, but we need something a bit more permanent.

My perimeter fencing is cattle panel - but you all know that I know that is NOT good seperation fencing.

Sooo, what do you all use?

Wood?
Plastic?
Electrified something?

I would rather have this fence give then harm the horse (the perimeter fence holds them in fine) that tries to kick out or paw the neighbor.

Thanks!!

Hey DQ..I have the vinyl..and although it looks nice..I would only recomend it if you have a hot wire, cord, tape in it as well..

one of mine pokes his head thru the first opening and can/will pop the rail right out..scarrrry stuff..He doesn't do that now..

I have used the tape too, but it seems to break...for me anyway...so sorry..I like and have some of the combo-panels thruout my property and they seem to be doing fine..and that is more of a portable type fencing that can be moved around..if you don't mind yanking out t-posts..but it can be moved...unlike most fencing that has to stay put..

didn't help ya..sorry

good luck

HH :)

We found wire works great for keeping horses separate. Most of our property is board, but some spots still have just two strands of hot wire. They learn to respect it after getting shocked a few times. None of ours fight over the fence.

Musht be niiiiice. <_<

Miss Grace and Gunner-man have a love hate relationship - she throws him facial bombs and he likes to run-turn-buck-kick out at her into the fence. :argh:

Okay so far cuz the white tape just dissintigrates so far harmlessly.

Why can't they just stick their tounges out at each other like other siblings????

DQ, I don't know what your paddock arrangement is, but electric works! Even a hot wire along the top would help; you might even get by with a solar charger. Once an animal has been zapped a couple of times (on the nose is best), it becomes a psychological barrier and even when a line is down (deer break them all the time here), they do not want to go anywhere near that wire.

I have too many bulls, and in order for the main bull to be with a certain group of cows for breeding, it would mean that the main bull would share a fenceline with his 16 mo. old son (who will be leaving once he is sold). So we ran another line of electric fence across the side that they would share so that there is now about a 12' alley between the two fencelines. It meant putting in another spring gate and it made one pasture a little smaller, but it is working.

I second running a strand of electric tape along the top of wood fencing. My gelding lives at a small farm. He is turned out with a 29-year old mare who miraculously still comes into season, and they share a fence line with an Arab stallion and his gelding son. It works because the stallion is amazingly well-behaved -- the most he does is call for the mare every once in a while when she's in season. But my horse gets protective of the mare and sometimes will snark at the stallion over the fence. We ran a strand of solar-powered electric tape above the top plank of fencing and it worked like magic. After one minor zap on the nose, my horse won't go within a foot of the fenceline. We don't even need to keep it on anymore. And it really is a very minor shock. I've zapped myself a few times and it's startling but not painful.

We just use the regular wire, not the tape or rope. We found the plain wire works best.

You might want to try running two separate fence lines a few feet apart from each other.
