I Visited Candy Mountain and All I Got Was This Lousy Incision

Well, I've been very anxiously awaiting this foal. Our first by our Stallion Deacon and the second from our Arab mare Madelaina. She's not due untill mid August but was 2 weeks early with her March 05 colt. Her milk started getting cloudy yesterday and today it's thick, white and opaque. This afternoon her vulva is swollen and relaxed. She seems mildly uncomfortable, tail head spongey. I'm not sure what to expect from her. With her first foal she was 16 years old and she waxed for 2 weeks! :o Nearly drove me nuts! But, this time she's showing ALL the signs, so here's hoping I'll have a foal in the next day or two!

Here's a shot of Mom and Dad....

Thanks Truly! I'll definately be posting some pics! I just tested the ph of her milk (first time I've tried that) and it's 6.2..... so I believe that's a sign she's about to drop her foal. :woot:  I don't have calcium strips so I can't check that out. Hope to have some good news in the morning! :luck:

O.K.... here's some photo's of the newest addition. He's about 20mins old in the first 2, and the 3rd shot is his first time standing. Maddie was kind enough to allow me to be present for the birth this time. He did get a little stuck, but luckily it was nothing we couldn't handle. Fortunatley mom and baby are both doing really well. I was REALLY hopeing for a filly from this cross to keep for my breeding program, maybe next time. I'm may be slightly biased, but I really like him and am very happy with Deacon's first Canadian born foal. :cloud9: He needs an 'M' name, so...any suggestions?

Congratulations on a sturdy, strong looking boy! Glad he arrived safely and it looks as though he figured out that standing up part very well. I have a feeling you'll come up with a great name.

Love the stone work in your barn too.

Thanks everyone! I've been pretty excited waiting on this one. This mares first foal weren't much to look at for the first week or so, he was windswept and very lax tendons, etc. He straightened out pretty quickly and is nice little horse now. This guy came out looking much better, (I guess mama streched out that uterus a bit) bigger and not nearly as lax in the tendons. Kind of neat to have the first one born on the farm with both ma and pa present. Now hopefully I can get her back in foal in short order with my requested filly! :P

Hey Fred, thanks! He's really developing very nicely and I see ALOT of his sire in him! I can't wait to see him at 3 months!

Haven't seen much of you on the net lately. Probably busy with breeding and I hope for your sake a vacation!
