Just a short update on Big Bad Bodie!  He is doing better with the weather calming down. Poor guy had to bear the 100 + temps for a while but now it is much cooler! The vet said he never looked better! With his fresh Body Clip he looks lovely and more like his old self. Slim and fit he resembles a younger horse than his papers reveal. At 17 he is looking great as long as we keep him clipped.

The vet ran a full blood panel and a Cushings test. She is researching the OneAC and will let us know today when she comes out. I do not see Bodie during the week so I cannot really say if he is better. But from what his caretakers tell me he is doing well. He had a light lunge yesterday and must have been Ok or they would have called. Today Mr. Gunnar will ride him lightly so he will be able to tell me how he is truly doing! He is on electrolytes in a daily bag until further notice. They have to add water and I may just switch to the lite salt as he would probably eat that is his Ultium is wet! He does not need the additional sugar from the electrolytes. I need to research sugar free electrolytes!

Keep the jingles coming until further notice, please!

Thanks for all your caring and support. It means a lot to Bodie and I!

Steph, I feed sugar-free electrolytes to my guys. It is Finish Line's Apple-A-Day. No complaints from them - I mix it in with their buckets and it especially helps Miles drink more.

Nice that the temp has dropped - Bodie must be more comfortable now!

Gunnar ***JINGLES*** for Bodie!

I have a vet-tech friend with a horse who has this and she feeds him ONe AC and one St. Pauli Girl beer EVERYDAY. He's sweating this year like a normal pony for the first time in three summers.

She did a lot of research before trying the beer and she was skeptical. He'd been on the One AC for two summers before the beer with not much success.

I'll ask her where she got her information.

He LOVES the beer, BTW. Turns into a nickering fool at dinnertime.

I've searched around the net a bit and the most I can find at present is that it has to be a DARk beer, but most people swear it works.

The supplement you are using worked very well for our horse. Shade and a breeze (natural or fan) really help as well. Jingling!

Glad to hear that Bodie is feeling a bit better. I can't imagine dealing with those temps, it must be so hard when you see your horse struggling. I haven't heard of the One AC before but I'm assuming it's a supplement that is supposed to help them sweat more efficiently?

Sending more jingles to Brodie. And just wondering if Mr Gunnar can teach Mr Black Tack to body clip  Now, that is a good guy :rose:

we had good success with the supplement you are trying, and haven't had a problem since the one episode. Good luck with your boy.

I thought I would update you guys on Bodie. He seems to be doing well. I actually never gave him the OneAC. Ever since he was clipped he seems OK. I also found out his waterer was not cleaned out for a period of time :brickwall: and this most likely contributed to his problems. They have a teenager from Belgium cleaning the barn and typical of a teenager she did not check or clean out his teeny, tiny waterer. He is a dunker so that means he was not dunking during those days!! He gets water from the tub in the ring but when he is shut in his pen he was probably not drinking!! :brickwall: Last weekend it was in the high 90's when I rode and he did sweat! I do worry when I see his nostrils flaring but he seems OK! He is way fit and hard to get him worn out!

He was tested for Cushings again but it was still negative. Vet says he is IR but is not sure if Pergolide is the answer. I am waiting on her to contact another Vet who is an expert in the subject.

For now he is on 2 ozs of Electrolites and 1/2 oz of lite salt.

Thanks for caring!!
