When I decided to retire my TB, a lot of people told me he'd never survive living out because he was such a hot house flower and needed so much attention. Well, I thought I'd post some pictures of the dead creature for you to enjoy... ![]() Clearly, he's malnourished and falling to pieces (please see the dapples all over him) ![]() He hasn't forgotten what treats are ![]() Or scritchies ![]() Feed me or go away, I don't need the hugs. Retiring him was so the right decision

Awww, those are great photos. He seems happy, is he nearby to you? I haven't had too many horses that can't retire successfully. (I am Old Friends Farm) Just one big honking spoiled Warmblood with an attitude that ended up going back to his Mom since being spoiled daily was his mission in life. I got a TB in last year that worried me, but he is now fat, glossy and happy as a clam. Sometimes it just takes a while. But most of them? Takes about two days for them to kick off their shoes, grab a Mai Tai, and just chill LOL! Your 'hothouse flower' is very lucky to have you in his life.

I loff him, even if he is a big ole money pit
He's in franklinville NJ, about 40 minutes from the city and 10 minutes from the barn where I board my riding horses. So I do get out to see him, but not ever day like when I had him and the riding horses at the same place. Where he is now is MUCH better for him. The vet was insistent that he live out 24-7, because the thought it would help his stifle. It has. He's not sound but he's much sounder. |

He looks wonderful and very happy. I have a lot of owners who create a lot of stress for themselves over their horse's retirement. The horses LOVE it!! Huge pastures that aren't overstocked and overgrazed, friends, shade, lots to do and no work. A lot of them wind up looking better than they had looked in years.![]()

What a pretty boy. He looks like he's living the high life just being a horse. Very cool. Seeing pics of Joe makes me wonder whether he moved forward on "Ask Bebe"? He's a funny guy.

It's only when I go see him that I realize just how much I really miss seeing him every day. And riding him.
But he's very happy and in a great place. He doesn't miss me

That's the truth - a horse just needs grass, water, shelter, friends and a little care to be happy. It's people who are trickier! |

What a handsome boy!! I'd say he looks quite happy in his new digs
Do you find he adapted well to 24/7 turnout? I'm trying to convince my Mom to put our two oldies out on full turnout, but no luck <_< How does your guy handle the more extreme weather? When it gets really hot? |

He adapted like he had ALWAYS been living out. It was really very amazing. Since I moved him in December, it was freezing cold. He hadn't been clipped but he was blanketed. So we continued to blanket him. The darn animal NEVER stood in his nice shelter. He'd drag the hay OUT of the shelter to eat it in the snow. Whatever He seems fine right now with the heat/flies. The BM fly sprays him in the morning when she brings the other horses out. He seems extremely chilled and happy. It's me who is sad. I miss him. |

Ain't that the truth. I retired Tyler last year. He'd spent his whole life at the track, then as a show horse. I thought he would miss me terribly. Let's face it though...to him I'm just a big snack vending machine. Here he is with a little buddy. BTW, this is the horse who couldn't be turned out with other horses because he was too aggressive. |
