So, Mr. Diva , myself and the two smaller Diva's went to look at a horse yesterday. Now, normally, I go shopping for equines by myself or with a good friend of mine who is very knowledgeable and will give me her honest (and sometimes brutal) opinion. But this time, we ventured out on our own. We went to see Tigger. Tigger is about 13 months old, and is a palomino paint (for lack of a better word). Very cute, not a bad mover, although very hard to tell becuase there was not a level piece of ground anywhere. He is a boy, but those are going to leave after he is purchased. Mr. Diva fell in love. The two little Diva's fell in love. I tried to remain impartial, and look at him from a cold, business-like perspective, but... you know the rest.So here are my questions... He looks very skinny and he is butt high and at that rather gawky teenage boy stage. He has been on pasture all of his life until recently. What do I feed him to ensure that he looks much better. He has been handled, can lead, trot in hand, pick up feet, trailer, bathe, but cross tying is not happening. What can we do on a daily basis with him to keep his training consistent? Or am I being too ambitious and should work with him two or three times a week and the rest of the time let him get on with the business of growing? I am probably nuts for considering purchasing a baby, becuase who knows what he could turn out to be. Could be a hunter, or not. He has champion reining bloodlines, he could do that, but not with me as I am a hunter. He could just be a horse that is well loved by an entire family. That one is for certain. The decision has been made by Mr. Diva that should the purchase happen, we will NEVER SELL HIM. Did I mention that Mr. Diva fell hard... I have pictures, but cannot figure out how to post. I sure do appreciate this board and all of the great folks who are here! |

AAwwwwww.....my hubby falls for the babies too. Not being a "horseperson", it's endearing how much he cares about them. I wouldn't do a whole lot for a while, just continue on with basic handling. I've heard of too many babies hurt in cross ties, so mine won't learn til I'm sure their little necks can handle even the easiest breakable ones. I'm very careful with them. They can get into trouble with the simplest things. I feed mine according to needs. You can research on any feed site, or go to any feed room chat, but ultimately, you know the animal and it's needs. Good luck and enjoy the new little Diva. I put my pictures on photobucket and then paste them on my post. It's so easy even an old computer challenged lady can do it. Mary |

Well, the deal is getting closer to being done...I have confirmed that I can have him at the barn that I want excellent horse care, lovely lovely facility and great support for both he and I and the rest of the Diva clan. I will move Miss Diva Herself there too. It is a very small facility and they do not have herds of teenagers or screaming children and NO DOGS!!! I can hardly wait.He will be on turnout board for the first few months while he gets on with the business of growing, then he will move into a big boy stall next year this time, if all goes well, to learn more about what he will have to do for the rest of his life, other than eat carrots and get totally spoiled by Mr. Diva and all of the Diva clan. Now, to find the vet to do the snip snip....

What is his breeding? I've seen a few reining bred horses in the hunters - they did very well. They have to be athletic and use their hind end, so even though they are usually short and sometimes downhill, they can still move well and jump well. And if he doesn't want to be a hunter, find a reining trainer - it's loads of fun!! |

I do have his pedigree somewhere...apparently he does have a reining background and his dad does reining here in Ontario, and also western pleasure. I have to break it to Miss Diva Herself tonight that she will no longer be an only child, that I am "expecting" I am expecting temper tantrums until I stuff her face with carrots and smother her with kisses and hugs. |

I ride my moms reiner huntseat and someday I plan to use her as my sidesaddle horse. She out moves most the horses on our farm and is honest over fences and does her changes. Now if only she was a little bigger..... |

Well, the deal is done. Miss Diva Herself is not overly impressed with the fact that she will be having a little brother, and leaving the barn where she is right now , but she will just cope! Tigger will be gelded in the next couple of days and then rest and recuperate for two weeks then move to his new farm. Now reality is sinking in....ohmigod...what HAVE I DONE......
A yearling...I own a horse that I cannot ride for at least two more years....Oh well...it will be tons of fun working with his youngself! |

  Mr. Diva is so excited. He wants to go see his boy everyday while he is at his current farm to have him get used to us so that when he moves, someone he knows will be there and the change won't be too bad for him. He also wants to go to the tack store to buy a new leather halter for him and other stuff I have created a monster, but a good monster. I know that Mr. Diva is gonna heap a whole lotta love on this little guy and he is going to be just a wonderful little horse.
