With the NZ$ being the way it is at present, it is a good time to shop online and buy from the US and so I am considering splashing out on some new riding boots. I have had my eye on Mountain Horse boots for a while now, both the High Rider II's and the High Caliber Field Boots. As I am not currently competing and don't really ever intend to ride much competitively again, I suspect the less flashy High Riders will suit my needs better. The thing is I have very wide calves (thanks Daddy) and I am not able to try the boots on before I buy so would LOVE to hear from others in my predicament who have either bought or tried MH boots - I would hate to import something that does not even come near fitting! I know that they have elastic inserts so I guess my main question is, exactly how generous the stretch is? My calves are close to 18" at the widest point and the size guides state that the W are around 16" which is quite a difference. TIA for any helpful advice

I've had my eye on the Mnt Horse boots too - but have not found any to try on yet. And dread the sending back and forth in the mail... |

I gotta say, I've tried them on and 16.5" is just about all you'd coax them to stretch for. It's gusseted, but not quite that gusseted, unfortunately. This site has a number of links to places that sell reasonably priced off-the-rack or custom boots for those of us with larger calves. It also has a lot of links to plus-sized riding clothing, but as I've learned in my boot travails, not all of us with big calves are plus-sized (I'm a size 10 in street clothes and have a 16.5" calf!) Don't forget the link on the bottom of this page to get to the second page of links: http://www.barbarasdomain.com/main/index.p...tion&category=7 |
