So, I fed my two year old on the trailer this morning. She walked right on and ate her breakfast, then i backed her off. I'm guessing once she's closed up in it and moving, she might flip out a bit, so I'm going to trailer her with my 32 year old pony for company....now the real question--DO I TRAILER HER WRAPPED OR UNWRAPPED? I've never wrapped her before. I'm wondering whether wraps will more likely freak her out, or whether i should wrap her to be safe when she does freak out.....I always wrap my "normal" horses. If I do need to wrap her, what can I get away with? Thanks Rachel |

I would say no wraps and just bed the trailer well for her. If she is not used to wearing them, it could upset her more by putting them on, and she may freak or struggle trying to get them of of herself. |

No wraps, they will only irritate her. And why do you think she will freak out? That hasn't been our experience at all. Once they walk on and stand comfortably, they do quite well. They are uncomfortable while trying to find their balance, but seem to realie that they really have to concentrate to do that. |

I also vote no wraps. One less "different" experience for her to deal with. She'll be okay unwrapped, it's not THAT far of a trip and I suspect after a few kicks she'll realize the trailer is winning and give up :):) |

You could wrap her a few times before hand while she is in her stall and let her get use to them. |

No wraps!! If something happens and they start to come off you could do a lot of damage. |

I"m voting for no wraps. Reason I'm worried is my just turned three year old freaked out 5 miles down the road first time I shipped her by herself (stella has only been on the trailer once and that was from SD to VA on a big rig)...that one calmed down as soon as I put someone else on the trailer with her. She has such pretty legs, I'd like to keep them that way :-) |

How long is the trip? Mine practice wearing wraps in their stalls. If they are not comfortable with them then they ship without wraps. Some do fine in front wraps but don't want to wear the back ones. For very long trips we don't wrap unless one of us will be with them to re-set the wraps every 12 to 24 hours. Good luck. Hope it is an easy and uneventful trip. Lots of nice hay in front of her and a quiet companion should make it all fine. Also make sure the driver makes it a smooth trip with no quick stops or starts and no fast turns. Just because I am extra careful.....the first few times ours go for a ride we have their regular handler ride with them. There is a nice spot for him to sit and hold the lead rope....we don't tie them the first few times. |
