Eire of Romance (Blarney) won his small 2yo Future Event Horse class at Waredaca Horse Trials Friday, with scores ranging from 67-76%, with overall 71.5. This was the 3rd highest score of the day. As his conformation (75%) and overall impression (76%) were quite nice I am hoping that once we all learn how to do the triangle walk and trot correctly his score will go up. I'll post pics as soon as I get them on the computer. Blarney is out of Gina O'Sullivan's mare,Cadogans Shannon, who is 3/4 TB and 1/4 Irish Draft. Blarney seemed to enjoy himself, shipped like a trooper, never broke a sweat (and it was HOT), drank his water, ate hay and peed in the trailer. Sounds silly, but those things really help when he starts competing in earnest. Now he did try to roll in the indoor and spooked when he saw himself trotting toward himself in the mirror (first indoor, first mirror). But overall his cheerful unflappable attitude was great. He loved having his mane pulled, clipping his face, ears, legs and tail for the first time was a total non-event. He was wiggly for the braids-- with his long neck there were alot! But no rubbing. Good boy! |

YAY for another Fred baby. Fred must throw his temperament - they all seem very sane and sensible for babies. They just start out mature in the brain.

Yes, I agree, the more Fred babies the merrier. Temperament is honestly at the top of my list for a truly useful and fun horse. It is just such a blast to ride a partner who loves to "do" as much as you do. And then Fred also adds talent and beauty. Sigh! We just had a lovely Consul/TB filly this spring and have her penciled in for a future date with Fred. |

Congratulations to Blarney, Maisie and mbj. As just one of his "grannies" I can say for sure we are both very proud. Didn't the judges comment that he was 'an ideal upper level event horse prospect' or something like that? (or was I just projecting?
)Good for you Babette to go to all the work to get him out and shown, and good luck with him in the future. Fred does have some kind of unflappable temperament, for sure. Today we had to collect and on the way home, my truck (pulling my trailer with Fred in it) DIED on the highway. I was able to pull over to the too-narrow shoulder, but huge transport and gravel trucks were just thundering past. Luckily I was wearing my big girl thong-pends. I was able to contact a friend who could come get Fred with her truck and trailer.. we unloaded him on the side of the busy highway, and he did NOT BAT AN EYELASH, he walked off and walked calmly back on to this new, strange trailer without a second's hesitation. Thank God for that unflappable, intelligent , willing temperament. What is most gratifiying to me, is that he is somehow passing it on. When we got home, my legs were just shaking. My DH stayed with the truck to wait for the tow. I need a drink. I am really proud of you Babette and Blarney!
