We have 10 days to finish all preparations for the ride on our horses across the state of MI. :jaw:

I feel like we have so mmuch more to pack....to do, lists to make and scratch off, stuff to order (today is the last day I think I can resonably expect stuff to show up for the trip if I order it)...

We'll be on the ride from June 15 to July 1. :cheer:

We'll do 2 days of riding and then have a day off, repeat. ITs easier on the horses and us if we do it this way.

I'll post pics and info when I get back so you can all see.

Wow - sounds so cool! Do people drive along with you?? Just wondering how you have enough *stuff* to make it for two weeks? (Short of bringing a gun and hunting for food along the way?) Not to mention first aid supplies, etc. How does it work?

What a great experience! Can't wait to hear all the details.

Stuff: Well, first you load up 25 bales of hay on your rig  We have a 3 horse slant so stall # 1 with the ramp exit is our hay stall. Oh, and you wrap the bottom bales in a tarp cuz in stalls 2 and 3 the horses go - and have a tendancy to, uhh, go.

Alfie cubes: 2 50 lb bags, 200# grain, suppliments and electrolytes.

Our truck has a water tank in the back of it - 65 gallons. We'll go through that in 2 days with 2 horses. The people water tank is 30 gals.

The LQ part of the rig has a huge fridge/freezer that runs on gas or electric (there will be no electric in the camps we are in). We keep bevvies in a cooler w/ ice, food in the fridge.

2 bridles each horse, a saddle each horse (2 if you have them is nice but we don't have that kinda $$$).

We have 3 first aid kits: huge one in the LQ, huge horse one in the tack room (center tack on our rig) and a small one for saddle bag. We keep another set of it all in our 2 horse bp too. My theory is if I have it I will never need it. So far Theory is right on.

And there is the mileage prep work - you are riding from 10 to 30 miles per day - you and horse must be in shape.

It is cool! I've been doing this since I was 16 - in a 2 horse bp and toppered truck.

To get from camp to camp you:

#1 attend a meeting the night before so you know what to expect the next day.
#2 awake at oh-dark-thirty to feed horse, put saddle, bridle, pad, breast collar, girth, saddle bags packed with stuff, helmet, etc out and move horse from picket to tree.
#3 Drive rig to next camp, catch bus and return to horse (praying all the while that you have remembered to leave all afore mentioned items).
#4 tack up and ride to next camp
#5 care for horse, feed self
#6 attend meeting....

Its a blast - every day is an adventure - water to cross, boardwalks, bridges, a lake at the beginning and the end that you MUST get your horse into to earn the trophy.

Dave was my 'rig jumper' till we got him interested in the riding parts. :cheer:

Their Forum was shut down due to snark. Hmmm. TOB would know more about THAT.
