I'm soooo jealous! Max is just adorable - what a lucky guy that you picked him out of the pack. Now I want a pony! I'm way too big for one, but I just want one darn it!!!!!

Well I did every desensitizing exercise I could come up with tonight and nothing got much more than an ear flick. I was prepared for a whole lot of this Posted Image but what I got was a whole lot of this Posted Image . Then he stood ground tied in the barn and let me brush his tail out, no problem. Massive improvement from Sunday.

When he sees you coming, he comes in from his paddock to his stall and sticks his head over the door, looking for love (and hopefully a cookie). This little guy is really sweet, and he seems much more comfortable already.

Thursday - tack him up and lunge.

He is gorgeous and what a difference just a little trimming makes. Having a barn full (3) of "cast-off" horses, I totally agree with you. How could a horse be able to trust a person if they've just been shuffled around and mistreated? I know I probably wear rose-colored glasses ....but I like the view from here, and so far I haven't been wrong.

I can't wait to hear more about him and the lunge lesson this week! Out of curiousity...is he from NY? Looks like a medium pony I knew that was being shuffled around for sale last year? And had the same reputation -- bucked people off. Of course no one actually worked with him for any period of time, he was just grabbed, saddled and hopped on by strangers. :( I'd buck them off too.

Great job! Good luck!

I really doubt he's from NY.. that would have been a long way to travel. He's got a brand on his left shoulder, if that means anything.

No, I'm pretty sure I'd have remembered the brand. I'm sure I was thinking [sadly] about another another bay pony that hasn't found a nice landing spot.

I have 2 rescue horses that I aquired last August. What a difference 6+ months makes. My perch/pony bit me really hard when I tried to pick her feet the first time because to her "feet = riding" and she was lame and had been ridden in pain. Now I do her feet outside without being tied, even though she's still lame. She trusts me now.

My TB mare was so underweight when I got her she would dive into the food bucket in my hands and spill it all, but she was so frantic to eat she couldn't help herself. Now she's fat and happy, and willing to work.

My best advice is don't rush and don't push too hard. You can see in his eyes that he's a sweet guy. How lucky he is to have found you! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:
