Update on Max: He really isn't too bad at all. We round penned him for a few minutes (and I do mean a few.. he was huffing and puffing just trotting around  ) then bathed him and spent an hour and a half fussing over him. He's definately worried when you first go to do something, but not overly so.. he gives you the WTF eyes but that's about it. Once you do it and he realizes he's not dead, he settles right down and goes to sleep. We pulled his mane, brushed his tail, gave him a bath, and picked up all of his feet. He ties great.. he stood there and fell asleep while we fussed over him. He's no problem to catch or anything. The only thing he really stayed worried about was his tail.. if you hold it he really thinks you might just rip the damn thing right off his body. He did get over it but if you grab it he gives you this face.We sticked him at a hair under 13.2, so once he gets his ridiculously long feet done he'll be well under the 13.2h mark. So, YAY he's a medium! The mane was worse than I thought.. its going to be a work in progress. Today the length got taken care of, now it just needs to be thinned out and evened up. ![]() pardon the windblown look

Wow, Max looks great, nice shine...very thick mane, isn't it? I bet he isn't used to be fussed over and once he knows you better, he'll realize that good things are happening. And, you know, the purple halter's growing on me. |

what i gather from looking at the stamps on his coggins and talking to a few people at the sale is that he's been through at least 3 auctions since March. One scary redneck cowboy came up to me after the sale (as soon as he approached, the pony literally hid behind me) telling me that he had the pony for a few days and that I should get rid of him immediately because he's dangerous. He said that he couldn't ever get near him without the pony trying to kick the snot out of him. I sure have NOT seen any behavior anywhere near that.. I can't imagine him kicking anyone unless he thought it was his only option. He's a flight kind of a guy, not a fighter. A little spooky, sure, but he's shown ZERO dangerous behavior. Then again this redneck has a reputation for ruining horses, and we have to remember the kind of people that buy ponies at these sales.. I'm sure they're tossing him in their trailer, unloading him, tossing a saddle on him, and throwing their kid aboard. It'd probably scare me too.
You do have to wonder how it came to this though. Someone obviously loved him at one point.. he knows that treats reside in pockets. It's hard to tell how he moves.. he's only got one shoe on, and it's steel. Plus his toes are ridiculously long. I'm reserving judgement til I can get the farrier out. |

He's a Welch. He looks like he might have something Drafty in him somewhere- quite the solid pony! (I want him.) I don't see the QH, but then again, most of the QHs I've worked with up close and personal (I want him) were Western breeding stock, so take that with a whole shaker of salt. (I want him.) Morgan, maybe? (I want him.) I loooooove his head, I love that little bit of Roman nose. (I want him.) Reminds me a bit of my boy who is Irish- I will find a picture to compare, my first thought looking at his new head shot was "That is Tip's little brother." (How much for him?) |

He's a cutie and now shines like a new penny. I think the halter is fitting for him, but maybe in blue because purple isn't such a manly color...
Good luck keep us updated on his progress!!!

depending on how he's standing, he looks like something different. In motion he looks VERY welsh, but his head's so blocky. I was guessing maybe cob or something?? It's anyone's guess.

My mother saw the picture and agrees. Max is Tip's little brother. She thought that he WAS Tip until she noticed the lack of white. I've gotta find a picture- this is really neat. And it says good things for your boy because my pony, of course, is perfect! I'm sorry to harp on about this, it just threw me for a loop. Perhaps he is a very small Irish Thoroughbred. Anyway, he is adorable and I'm sure will be something. Keep us updated and of course plenty of pictures! |

lol I must see pictures of Max's brother. The barn owner called and said that my genius pony is standing out in the hail and pouring rain eating grass when he could walk 15 feet and be in his nice warm dry stall. Boy I'm glad I went to all the trouble to bathe him!
