So apparently my horse is squealing and striking out ...randomly.... in his stall.... He's pretty territorial these days - the looks he gives other horses are just rediculous. But this occurs even when there's no other horse in sight......Also, a friend of mine bought her new horse to our barn a couple of days ago.. every time he sees her he squeals (in a not so manly way) and strikes out whether it be as she walks by his stall or is 100 feet away in the next paddock. Any ideas why? I dunno this horse just gets weirder and weirder by the day...... Oh Limerick - you may want to watch for this behaviour in case out boys are still corresponding by ESP like they were last year

Front I believe - I've personally never seen it. I've just heard about it. The barn is quiet during the day, busier in the evenings but no busier than his old barn (we moved in Sept). He doesn't do it in the evenings as that's when I'm there and I've never witnessed it! |

When I boarded in GA, there was a mare that did this. They put a jangle-chain-thing (not the official name, I don't know what you call it) on the leg she was striking out with, and it helped a lot. |

a kick chain worked pretty well on my guy when he started striking (at feeding time), this is probably what you meant, right vxf? just make sure it is ALWAYS taken off before the horse is taken out of his stall |

Sounds like he's not happy with his place in the herd. My old QH mare used to do this when she had a fence/wall/whatever b/t her and the other horse. She'd make faces and scowl, squeel and strike, and be mean old beeoch horse on campus - till there was no barrier between - and then she'd do 'baby horse' mouth (you know, where they open thier mouth and flick their tounge and are all submissive?) so she never got the crap beaten out of her. Passive-Agressive, yes? I ignored it, laughed at it. She never hurt herself or the barrier. |

Turns out he's in love...... yep... that new filly at the barn is apparently quite a looker in addition to being the biggest flirt. Whereas before when she walked by he was squealing he's now nickering to her and today he kept whinnying to her. She is in the paddock beside him and follows him up and down the fence line. If he is too far away to do that she just stares at him through the fence. He used to be the alpha-guy in a herd at the old barn - at the new place he's on individual turnout (he wouldn't let the others in the herd be caught when we tried him with the new herd!!). He's now gone girl crazy. ![]() |

OK it's getting rediculous now..... BB loves to be outside and if it weren't for the -30C weather in the winter I'd consider 24/7 turnout... he's now been whinnying and wanting to come in when Dani goes in
Here's the flirty temptress as a baby..... Flirt Rediculous
