Okay... The good news: The vet looooved Somerset and he's fine in terms of most of the basic PPE stuff. The bad news: Somerset seems to have dorked himself on turnout somehow, and came in a little off-- too off for the vet to fully evaluate and recommend him. Aurgh, just my luck! He was clearly sound last Friday and decided to go run like a nut this week in anticipation of the PPE So... Suzie and Somerset's owner are going to have a look at him tonight and see if they can't get him over whatever he did to himself. And then once he's sound... my vet can come out and finish the PPE. HORSES!!!! They make you crazy!
I am fairly confident it'll all be fine in the end, once Somerset recovers from whatever he managed to do to himself. |

Like I said before, there's clearly no fun in getting poked and prodded if you can't hurt yourself first! He just got overexcited about the prospect of coming home with you and played too hard! |

Stupid ponies, I swear. So we have a brand new baby who goes out in the paddock thats next to Somersets field. Well for some odd reason unknown to any of us, Somerset things that baby should be his (never done this with any other baby) and goes nuts anytime he see's the baby. He has spent the past three days running up and down his fence line. Im assuming this is what he did to manage to hurt himself. Hopefully he will be just fine in a few days and the purchase exam can be finished and everything can continue on a happy road. I swear, horses sometimes make you crazy! |

In some ways, it's really for the best. A few days off to recover, and then we can finish the PPE. My shipper couldn't get down there any earlier than the end of this weekend/beginning of next week- and this gives him a little more padding to make the trip easier on his schedule. It also gives me enough time to buy a shipping halter and wraps and send them for his trip. So that's good... I am sure Somerset will be fine in a few days with a little rest/bute-- I am sure it's nothing. Please make clear to him, that he is to PASS the rest of the PPE and that foal is NOT COMING TO PENNSYLVANIA! |

Don't all horses do something goofy before their PPE? It's in their Horse Union contract, I'm pretty sure. Somerset is just testing you a bit to make sure you'll love him forever and forgive little boo-boos. BTW, I *love* that name! Will that be his barn name too? Keeping my fingers crossed for you!

So I went back out after I got off so the owner couldd look at Somerset. Woul you believe he was completely sound? So whatever he had done was not bad at all. The plan right now is to ride him a few days then get the purchase exam finished. Weve also move him so he cant see the baby. It is an awful cute little pony filly, I understand why he likes her so much. |

Tell Somerset that if he stays sound, he has a present waiting for him-- his own PERSONAL baby. Course, the baby is an 18 year old APHA gelding-- but he's pony sized and therefore a baby
I love the name and will be keeping it... it's a perfect name for him and really suits him. And it fits into the (accidental) horse naming scheme I've got going on-- Stoney, Shane, Somerset... I think it'll be both and barn and show name, unless Somerset develops some sort of nickname like clumsy or baby-nabber

Trouble, I love it!My boyfriend mentioned that there's a character in Monster's Inc. named "Sully" and that "Sully" might be a good barn name. He even bought the DVD so I could see it. Still on the fence... many folks here like Somerset as both a barn and show name. |
