This is news so exciting that it needed its own thread...

I think, thanks to the kindness of 2 people on this board, as well as some incredible good luck-- that my horse search is at an end.

First, extra extra special thanks to BABYGREENTB (aka Jennifer), who forwarded me loads of leads to horses for sale in Virginia-- including one very special horse you're about to hear about.

Second, extra extra special thanks to SKRacingGirl (aka Suzie), who is currently riding very special horse, and moved mountains to show him to me on short (read, "no") notice and put in all kinds of good words for me that led to the ultimate happy ending.

Now the story...

Wednesday at the COB, Jennifer forwards me this link to an amazing horse. I cannot figure out why he's for sale, and in my price range. Big chestnut dutch cross with 4 whites, roaning all over, and a blaze, by Aristos B. 17 hands of pure puppy dog, based on the ad. Lovely mover, well put together, and kick along quiet.

Thursday am, I contact the seller whose info is listed in the ad, Suzie. She goes out of her way to give me information and send me videos, and I am smitted from the start. I send the videos around to my horsey clique and the consensus is that this guy is worth a last minute trip.

So I tell Suzie I am coming Friday AM. She goes way out of her way to clear the schedule for me. I drive 5 hours, get there, walk up, see his face in the stall and that's it-- I'm done for. She rides him and, wow, he's a dream. I ride him and love him, although he's sooooo different from what I am used to.

Go back to Suzie's work, where the owner (who is a vet) is. The vet also goes out of his way to tell me about the horse's history etc. and is just soooo nice. We make an offer to buy, the offer is accepted-- now all that's left is the PPE. The horse is young and I don't see any reason why things won't work out. Not with the incredibly good feeling I have about this.

This horse is a far, far, far nicer horse than I *ever* dreamed of owning in my life. I thought maybe if I slaved away as a lawyer for 15 years, maybe I could then buy myself a really nice, fancy horse-- but I never ever, even THEN expected to have such a nice one.

I feel really really lucky, and I cannot believe the nice things Jennifer and Suzie did for me. They had no reason to help me except their own kindness. I am very very grateful. They are good people, the karma should be heading back their way tenfold! :) Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!

I am working on getting a PPE scheduled (if you have a vet recommendation for the Charlottesville VA area, it would be appreciated) and I will let you know. Hopefully I can catch a ride with a trailer coming to Devon.

And now... the photographic evidence...

(please excuse our bellies, we're not as fit as we could be-- but we're going to get there together)

And just for fun, look who else I got to meet-- a bit of a lifetime horsecrush :)

:woot: OMG!!! I know the EXACT horse you are talking about. I've seen his ad on Virginia Equestrian and have been shocked that he hasn't sold yet. This is FANTASTIC news. Have him vetted at Blue Ridge Equine. Dr. Cowles or Stephens do the best vettings and the staff is great to work with.

Good luck with the PPE! I'm so excited for you and keeping all digits I have including toes crossed. :luck:

Dr Cowels and Somersets owner are best friends, so I dont think Dr Cowles will want to do it.

Let me add to Veronicas great adventure. As Im reading her thread about all her troubles horse shopping I think how perfect Somerset would be for her. While Im reading it I get a call from her, and neither of us knew we were both COTH people until later. I was so excited that she was coming to look because I knew he would be just what she wanted. He really wasnt being advertised other then Virginia Equestrian, which is why he wasnt going anywhere. As soon as she got on him you knew it was a perfect fit. She had the BIGGEST smile and he really enjoyed her. Im so happy that he will be going to such a wonderful person and I know he will get the best care. And everyone in her area thats going to have to show against her... WATCH OUT... cause he is niiiice.

Cute cute cute! :) All the best for the PPE, you look like a well matched pair. He reminds me of my AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME old boy San Barbados who has the stockings, blaze and roaning. Bados did it all in his time and did it well! He's still going strong at the tender age of 27 turned out for the winter with my three year old colt and 17 year old TB gelding. Great story and you do indeed look very happy :)

Suzie, sorry I never called you back when I was supposed to come look at him, I fell in love with my pony and sort of spaced on everything else. Glad to hear that it all seems to be for the best!

Here's to many years of a very happy partnership!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Barracks is horsey heaven.

So far everytime I go try a horse I am able to honestly say "we have huge pasture where I board-- tons and tons of gorgeous grassy turnout." And that's true, but uh, compared to the Barracks.... well, NOTHING compares to the Barracks!!!

Dr. Jeff Beshear with Old Dominion Equine in Keswick vetted my horse. I highly recommend him. Here is the practice website Old Dominion Equine
His wife Emily is an event rider, actually he is too!

Congrats on finding a dream horse at last...there is nothing like it.
