ladies and gentlemen, it is the end of an era. i caved yesterday and bought half chaps, and my beautiful, wonderful, amazing custom full chaps are sitting folded in the bottom of my trunk. i didn't want to do it, but when it's 80 degrees at 8pm, full chaps just aren't going to cut it. a moment of silence please.

Oh man. I'm so hoping this doesn't happen to me. I LOFF my custom full chaps. I don't ever want to NOT wear them. But, Philadelphia is fond of 90% humidity in the summer and I'm not sure I can survive. |

I, too, have switched over to my half chaps...at least for riding at home. If I'm going "out", I'll bring the full chaps. I have a beautiful custom pair from Journeyman's...however, they made them out of THICK leather, and they are roasting in the summer. FAB in the late fall, winter, and early spring, though. Fiance's chaps are the nice thin leather, so he can wear them year 'round.

it was so sad...i couldn't believe what i was doing. always swore me & my customs were in it till the end. they were my 18th bday present, and i haven't even thought about riding in anything else since the day they arrived (16 weeks after i ordered them  ) sigh. we'll always have the winter. |

I never thought I'd make the switch because it took me forever to think half-chaps weren't funny looking and none of the off-the-rack ones fit, but I got tired of sweltering in my full chaps so I finaly bit the bullet. I made the switch this year and I absolutely love my half chaps (they're customs and so very, very pretty). I'll probably go back to my full chaps when it gets cold again, but until then, my half chaps are my new best friends. |

Mua-hahaha!! Welcome to the 'real' dark side!!! I found I can't even wear my custom full chaps now that I"m used to halfs. After schlubbing around in old tall boots and off-the-rack half chaps, I find my fulls don't wrap as tight/thick/secure/supporting around my calf and I can feel the stirrup leathers underneath just a bit too much. Do what I did. Go buy a western saddle and hack around in your fulls in that!!

I'm also a recent convert! I finally broke down 5 days ago and bought a pair of half chaps! I thought it was finally time to retire the full chaps I've had for the past 20 years (yep, folks, they were custom made 20 years ago (and altered since)!). I'm still working on the details for the memorial service.
I bought the half chaps thinking "these will hold me over until I get a new pair of full chaps" (hubby said he'd buy me a pair of custom full chaps from Journeyman). After riding in the half chaps the past 4 days, I don't think I want full anymore.

I used to HATE half chaps. But seeing that when I started back riding, by full chaps from my teens years were no where near fitting and my old boots were in sad shape...and I was tired of wrapping my legs with standing wraps, half chaps seems like a good compromise. The full chaps now fit, but I still wear the half chaps most often...probably because I start to rely on the fulls too much and when I take them off I feel like I'm slipping everywhere in the saddle. |

they are stretchy leather, dark brown with tan piping, zip up with snap at the bottom and velcro at the top. i tried on a few pairs, and they were the best fit over jeans... |
