WAnted to put in a GOOD WORD for an austrailian trainer we have in this area. I actually worked for him some this winter at his barn and saw that he was quite good, but had a hrose I sent to him and this guy is really something! Alot of big dressage trainers have sent him warmbloods to start or that have "issues" including stallions. The horse I sent him a month ago was a three year old we bought that had only been track trained. He ran once last fall and was last. A GORGEOUS horse that is a top hunter prospect (would also be awesome eventer!). He was young and pretty difficult to handle, so two weeks after I got him sent him to this guy for mostly ground work. Went to see him today and he isn't the same horse! Now granted he is on 24 hour turnout which helped his energy level. But this guy would drag you on the leadline, just no manners etc. Now he is a perfect gentleman, stands quietly cross tied or straight tied, can be literally tied for hours and won't fuss. He got him out of the field, saddled him up (with a western saddle with flank cinch no less!) took him in a large round pen. First he took a "flag" and went all over him, horse never moved a muscle. then he took a BULLWHIP, a cracked it RIGHT BESIDE THIS HORSE, both sides, horse took absolutely no notice of it. I know, probably be flamed but frankly I WANT my horses to deal with stuff like this! He has had buffalo (yes real buffalo!) turned in with him and now could care less. Then he got on him, now he only rode him about 6 -7 times, I didn't want him pounded on, but wanted to know what to expect. Horse walked QUIETLY, trotted and cantered slow and easy on totally losoe rein, no problem (he did not lunge him first). THis horse was a dream! And he has ridden him out in fields and trails and said he is just as quiet and easy. Now the horse I think has a great disposition anyways, but this guy has him where he is just happy to do his job. While taking him back to barn he neer even LOOKED at the weed eater whirling, literally right under his nose, stood quietly in cross ties for his bath and just happy to be there. If you have a horse to get started or has problems I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this fellow. He will RIDE your horse. Now this is not high level riding, but just letting the horse go along, find his own balance and rythum, lots of ground/round pen work and desensitzing. This guy we got is for sale, but price is going up up up now!! He is a super fancy prospect and now has the attitude to match it! |

He is located here close to me, jsut north of Wilson, NC. His name is Bruce Eggelsfield. His training methods may seem a bit "different" but man do they work wonders! He is not abusive or anything like that at all! He jsut REALLY desensitizes the horses and spends VERY LITTLE time in an arena. He mostly rides them out on trails, woods, fields etc and they are exposed to everything and expected to behave. You absolutely get your moneys worth! He RIDES the horses, and when he works with one it is true, hard work! THe facility he is leasing is very nice as well. |

We start everyone of our youngsters out on the trail for 30 rides then they come home and we do trail and ring work.
I have found the horses we have had started this way are calm and sensible because they have all the stuff to be exposed to in the wild .. water .. traffic .. deer .. screaming wild turkeys. Over and above those things they learn balance up and down hills plus over logs.
He brought my personal filly home last night .. I got right on and what a dream she is. Stands quietly to be mounted/dismounted .. has W/T/C(not balanced but a firm beginning for strike off, backs nicely and was very easy to do serpentines and already has a nice grasp for working from seat and legs.
I use a guy out of Indiana, PA. I just booked my 2 two year old fillies for this fall. They will go out for W/T and a few strides of canter if they offer it. I will send them back in early spring for the refresher. He is full right now but might have slots available this fall.
