Beached Wale...no kidding! She was suck and at first I thought my 32 year old gelding was having a heart attack in the old round bale pile from winter. All I could see was two stiff legs straight out and a bunch of horses gathering. I had my camera right there on the table and once I realized it was not my gelding it must be Our White Lady and she was going to foal early on me. I get there and she is suck on the old hay pile and there is a small clump in front of her belly and she could not get up. I tried to scare her several times with 3 failed attempts by her to get up!! |

Oh now that is the big story!!!! In the third photo you can kind of see the clump of hay up against her belly that was holding her up from getting up. I got down in-between her legs to pull the hay away from her belly so she could get up before I left to go out on tour with some other agents to view a bunch of houses on a brokers open (we do this every Tuesday and have great catered food and try to win money in the drawings for various things like restaurant gift certificates, spa cert and ect.) while previewing new homes on the market. So, I am in high heels..not barn shoes, and dressed to go..I was waiting for my two friends to come pick me up. Well, as they drove up the drive way, I was digging away trying to get this hay from under her belly. In the mean time several of the other horses came over to "help me." About then, Snowy went to get up and threw both of her hind legs out in a 4th effort to get up and wham, I went flying..so I'm told about 5 feet in the air and landed on my back "like a turtle on it's back." Quote from my friend Mary. She caught me in the face...I don't remember being on my back or rolling over holding my face or walking to the fence to get out of the field with two people assisting me...they called the rescue squad!!! I wish they hadn't..but I do understand why with blood coming out of my nose, mouth and side of my nose..they were scared and saw the whole thing. The worst part was being tied down and being claustrophobic as hell!!! But on a good note Snowy unbeached herself and was able to get up from my handy work of moving the hay from under her belly. I think she got panicked when all the other horses started approaching her and she threw her legs back extra hard in a panic to get up and being scared after 3 previous attempts...poor girl!!! I won't do that again. I've gotten up so many cast horses before and never worried about being caught by their legs getting up. She just did it so fast and with no warning when the horses started approaching it happened very quickly!! I thought maybe she was foaling since there was some fluid dripping out of her..I guess it was pee since she did not foal and still has not foaled and I really wanted her up before I left that day on my tour or decide if she was going to foal and stay home with her. Once she was up it was determined by Fred she was not foaling and was OK so she was left out while I went on my fun adventure!!! NOT!!!

Welcome to the boot to the head club!
As the founder of the clique I can honestly say that it isn't fun!!! Make sure to take good care of yourself, and if you can get some, Arnica is wonderful to reduce pain and swelling.

Oh jeez, Norsire, you are one lucky lady! I was laughing when I got to the high heels part, then I was NOT laughing. That must have hurt like hell, and I think the rescue squad was a good idea. You are probably going to have a swollen nose and a sore back, hopefully not a black eye! Hope you can chill out a bit tonight and take some Advil (what's Arnica, sprucie?) and a hot bath. Always something with animals, isn't it? No good deed goes unpunished. Take care of yourself. |

Thanks! I've lived on Advil since I got home from the hospital. They asked if I wanted any pain meds and I said NO!
And then asked if I wanted some finnegan for my nausa and I said "please!" So that was all I got. They gave me a prescription for the finnegan, but I did not fill it..once they took all the strapes off, it was immediate calm and the finnegan put me to sleep. Everyone one always says get the pain meds and give them to me...No don't think so!
I hate pain meds..I just end up spending more time looking for the tide bowl man in his little boat if I take pain meds. Advil has been my best friend since Tuesday. I've done well today and only took it twice. I was more sore yesterday than today. I sleep on a bed with magnets and it really helps heal quickly. I don't even have a black and blue face due to the magnets. I think she got me in the shoulder too...did find a burse on my shoulder today right on the point of it..very sore and still very sore jaw. I had my guardian angels for sure...I had no broke bones in my face...the Dr. was shocked when he read the cat scan!!! Must be those calcium pills my Dr has me take every day!!
LOL!

Arnica is an herbal supplement that is available in most health food stores. I remembered seeing it in a GNC as a pain reducing rub-on ointment, and that works quite well too. I swear by Traumeel which has arnica in it. It seems to fix almost everything!
