I think the only reason you "look too big" for him is because that saddle is too small for you. I think if you rode him and took pictures in your own saddle the picture would be a bit better. JMO, though! Just out of curiosity...why aren't you riding in your own saddle? It's pretty hard to try a horse in someone else's saddle especially when that saddle is too small for you. Again, JMO! BTW...I like this fella. |

Actually I think you look fine on the black horse now, but when he drops his head you may look big? He's cute though. I think the light bay horse would've been good if his neck was a tad longer. You have the exact opposite problem I have. I'm 5'10" and ALL leg. I can ride almost anything as long as it's wide. You're new horse is out there, don't worry. Think of the experience you're getting riding a bunch of different horses, and it makes you realize even more what you want and what you don't want. |

I have brought my saddle to to try all these horses, but it was pretty much a non-fit on all of them without major padding, and the sellers didn't have lots of different padding for me to try. No WAY the saddle will fit the black horse. Two of the black horse could fit in my saddle.

Because of your torso you DO look a bit big on the first horse but after he learns to relax his head down and you get him properly conditioned, I think you will be ok. I am quite tall with a long upper body plus long legs so I have learned how to hide it on horses that are as small as 15:1 |

I think when you find the right horse, you won't worry about it so much. When I was shopping last year, I must have said a million times to my trainer, "I want BIG! I want a big horse so the jumps look LITTLE!" Well, let me tell you, the first time I saw the horse we now refer to (affectionately, of course) as The Midget, I was done for! He could have been 15.2 or 16.3, and I still would have bought him. Realistically, I probably am a bit too tall in the torso for him, but he had everything else I wanted. Just for reference, I am 5'5" and he is just a smidge over 16h. |

You look too big to look fancy in competitive hunters. I have the same body- 5'7", all torso. Height of horse doesn't mean a thing. You need that big long neck, longer back doesn't hurt either. I *love* the way you fit Stoney!! |

Why thank you...I think he's fabulous, but I'm a little biased! He's only 5, and was very green when we bought him, but he's been super easy...never stops, almost auto changes already. Ohhhh....now I'm just rubbing it in, aren't I???

Chezzie he looks great in that pic, showing off his beautiful trot! I'm 5'10" and I always felt just a tad big on him, but he never minded :-) Give Preston a kiss for me! I miss that face. |

I think you look fine on him. (And, trust me, I'm always the person at the horse show, sitting back whispering, "Damn, she's too *big* for that horse!") I'm 5'9" and all torso. I wear the same length pants as a friend of mine who's 6 inches shorter! My newest project horse is 15.2. My other horses range from 16-16.3 or so. I've been obsessing for the last week and a half that I'm too big for her, but my mother (who's the other person at the show who's always saying, "Damn, she's too big for that horse!") assures me I'm not. I don't *feel* too big, but still. I've gotta get some pics to reassure myself, LOL. What saves me is that while I'm all torso, Ladybug (new horsie) is all legs. I think we even each other out! |

I thought you looked fine on him in person, for what it's worth. Also, the black horse is used to being ridden in a dressage frame - he was definitely trying to figure out what to do with his head on light contact. I think he's got some filling out to do, and that he would figure out how to go in a softer nose-pokier hunter frame, which would help the overall picture. |

i think you look fine on him, but it's not just about how you look, but how you feel. at 5'8" with loooong legs, i sometimes feel big on my 16.2 skinny TB...on rounder 16.0 horses, i might not feel quite as big because they take up more of my leg. at the end of the day though, i am happy and confident on snowden, even if he's not quite the ideal size. although, i wonder if you're asking because you don't LOVE him, but just kind of like him? when i was looking at horses, i would most often find little issues with the ones i wasn't as crazy about, even though they were perfectly fine horses. |
