Holy smokes Fred, could there BE any more air between Lips and the rail! :jaw: That is one seriously talented horse!

Dont know if it is the same Southbound, but I can see why the pro would have him for sale - this is one horse with potential for the big time!

Congrats Fred and an extra carrot to Dad!

not the same horse, mbj, riggs, although they are both 16.3 dkbay TB geldings. Lips has a small stripe and snip, and he is a 1997 edition. Dad has no 1995's, he was only 4 himself then. His first small test crop is only turning 11 this year.
Thank you for posting the pic LL.
and that you all for the kind congratulations. Did I mention I LOVE this horse, and have from the minute he was born. I am so happy he is with such a good rider! :cloud9: :cloud9:

thank you all  for the kind congrats, you are great.  It means a lot to me, that colt has such a place in my heart.  And to see him doing so well.....
I'm so happy.

kinsella, I hope that they are listing Dad as the sire, I mentioned that to him, and he didn't sound definite.  Is there anything I can do at this end? contact the USEF myself to give them the info?

I just emailed "KBall" on the USEF site and told them I was the breeder with one of my ponies and next thing you know it was updated. Give that a try and see what happens.

Congrats on the wins from a homebred!!! :cheer:  :one: :woot:

It really brings tears to my eyes to see him, and remember those dark days when he was a baby. I would literally fall asleep in his stall, holding his 'bottle' ( a big water jug with a nipple on it). I used to cry seeing that tiny little guy, all alone in his big huge stall with no mommy to love him. Then we bought him a goat...... :innocent:
He was always so brave and determined, chipper.
I am so proud of him! Thank you desilu (Dad is proud too :) )

Some of you guys from COTH may remember that we raised an orphan foal last breeding season? Tthe foal was out of a mare that belonged to me but was out on lease - she died shortly after foaling.

It is a very long story but lets just say that the owner was far from easy to deal with and took the foal at 3 months without a word of thanks (oh and no money had changed hands - I didn't want payment for raising her), weaned her cold and then tried to sell her (never once told me that she was for sale) and when no buyer was forthcoming, she effectively abandoned her in a paddock (on her property) leaving the halter to rust on to and into her head :argh: :argh: :argh: .

ANYWAY, I can now happily report that she is in a new home with a very good friend of mine :one: and I can finally feel happy in the knowledge that she is in a good home. It was all very secret squirrel and she very nearly came back to me but I felt she would be better off with Kay and that is where she is :)

I am slotting this on this thread mainly for Fred's benefit coz I know she will remember the story and because her words (quoted above) touched me and reminded me of the harrowing and exhausting (but oh so rewarding) job of raising Roxy. I don't imagine I will be celebrating her Grand Prix achievements in the years to come but that is immaterial, she is a part of me now and always will be and I am just so proud of her for 'making it' despite all the obstacles that have got in her way :) .

(Sorry Fred, but know you won't mind me slotting this wee update in here :) )

What a picture your story paints, Fred.
NZ, that is just so sad, even with the happy ending. I wonder why people bother to have animals when they seem to care so little.
