As most of us know, the saleability and price of horses escalated rapidly into the new millenium. By about 2002 the market started to fall and then seemed to steady a bit in the last year or two. How does the market and price range look this spring so far for hunters, both green and going? |

Can't say about hunters, but TWHs in our area are down in price. And there are a lot on the market also. |

I am selling horses right and left! Now I deal with the less expensive hroses, most of mine are under $10K with a few up to $25K, but have sold two in the $10 - $25K range (and one more is right now on trail/getting vetted this week) and sold 9 in the under $10K since the first of the year! It is the best year I've ever had so far. |

What Chanda says about the market is this then: The low end sells, the upper end sells and the middle takes a lonnngg time. Thanks Chanda |

Yeah, actually, that pretty much covers it ;). The middle I think is the hardest market, regardless of the economy. It's hard to find a buyer, because, lets face it, most people either want cheap or fancy, not semi-cheap and semi-fancy. Plus, once you do find a buyer, they tend to want the horse to be completely blemish-free, because they feel like they're spending a fortune or they're newish to the industry. Or it's priced in the middle because it DOES have small problems. And then, once you have babysat the buyer through the deal, you discover that the money that the horse actually brought doesn't really cover the time and effort and expense that went into selling it. Middle is tough. |

I agree 100%!! Having a few that are fairly priced in the middle range, they are very difficult to sell. Those are usually the people that, if you can actually get to a vetting, think the horse ought to pass with absolutely no problems because they think they are spending a fortune and that because of that, the horse should have no issues. The same people don't understand that, no matter how much you spend, it takes wear and tear to get that horse to that level and it will need to be maintained there! It can be very aggravating. That being said, horses under $7500 can be impossible to sell because the people in that price range are usually (IME) unrealistic because they just are not educated enough. I am not fortunate enough to have any in the 6 digits to sell.
