I was just curious about the whole approvals experience with the different breeds.

Has everyone had a good experience? Are people friendly? How do these things seem to go?

I will be going to the Holsteiner Approvals and probably the BWP as well this year.

Just curious... please tell.

Well last year, I had my boy inspected Canadian Sport Horse...I cant even BEGIN to tell ya how nervous *I* was - both for him, as well as myself. He had never done anything like the inspection, and I had never even been to an inspection, let alone presented a horse for one :) My experience had been as a rider, and showing horses on the line, but never inspections. I knew ahead of time the horses that were being presented, and was pretty much star-struck when I got to see them in person, so I definitely *felt* like I didn't belong there. I had also convinced myself that people would wonder WHY I brought my little TB to an inspection that was full of GORGEOUS WBs! Haha! Having said that, everyone (and these are people I had never met) we're VERY VERY nice. I even had a lady braid for me, very last minute, that I didnt even know (she was a life-saver)! It was great! I asked a million questions, watched every horse before us go (to get a better idea of what was expected of us, and what to do/not do) and everyone was very helpfull. In the end, I had nothing to worry about. My horse did fine, and was approved.

Now, I'll share a couple mistakes that I made, because heaven forbid, I hope that nobody ever has to make this mistake again Hahaha! First, when I was told I should wear 'good, running shoes', as we'd be running, I took that WAY too seriously. Im talkin' I had nice black pants on, pink dress shirt...and yes, HIDEOUSLY clashing WHITE god-aweful running shoes! :one: Leave it to me to stand out like a sore thumb! Thankfully, the great friend that I brough along, saved me and let me wear her paddock boots - still looked silly, but NOTHING compared to my cross-trainer Nikes! Yikes!

Second mistake - in the middle of the inspection, in front of the inspectors, whatever you do, dont let go of your horse :teehee: I had set my boy up, and stood him for the inspectors, and then realized my shoelace was undone (I was about to run the triangle and had a horrible fear of wiping out while running it) so I decided to tie it back up...My boy is very quiet, and is used to being 'ground tied'(do it all the time at home, to teach him to stand), so I thought it was no big deal to tell him 'whoa' and bend down and tie it up...I heard everyone laugh and couldnt figure out why :psycho: . Then of course, *just* before I go to run the triangle, again, the shoelace...undone! So, once again, I ground-tie the stallion. Wasn't 'til after that I was told why everyone thought I was so 'funny'. LOL!

Anyways, good luck with your inspections - Im sure you'll have a blast!!

:cheer: We are having both a Canadian Warmblood and Canadian Sport Horse Mare Inspection hosted off our farm, just south of Fergus Ontario this year.

May 27 Mare Inspection
Canadian Sport Horse contact person Sue Johnston 905-549-4491
csha_inspections@hotmail.com

June 23 Mare Inspection
Canadian Warmblood Assoc. contact person Jill Stephens 519-928-2779
fairwind@sympatico.ca

We are having one of our own New Ladies Inspected also with the other Visiting Ladies.
It is recomended that you prepare your Ladies, and yourself, the same as if you are taking them to a show. A good bath, trimming of whiskers etc., and braiding "always show your girls off at their very shiny best". Some merely just pull the manes rather than braiding, which is also accepted.
Dress pants , white top, and dark shoes, (that you can comfortably run in), are quite complimentary to the Mares appearance, or "something in that line of dress". ( Jeans, sneakers, and rubber boots.....do not really complete the well groomed look of the outfit etc.)

Go onto the Sport Horse or Canadian Warmblood Websites for a more detailed explanation for an explanation of the Triangle.
( Do some Homework at having your Ladies Walk and Trot beside you.)

"ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS",
if you are unsure of what to do when you arrive, and find out what order etc. your Mares are showing in!
MOST folk are very willing to tell or show you what you need to know. (Talk to the BO or Host for the day, as they will probably know who to talk to if they can't answer your questions.)

At Travis Hall Equestrian Centre, we always have a coffee or tea brewing, and a box of Timbits etc. on hand, so come on over have a drink and introduce yourself when you arrive. :)
