It's probably more apparent to re-riders like me, but riding is good exercise! What is the best thing that riding has done for your body?

For me, it has made my aging, flat ass round! Woo hoo! My legs are muscular, too, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. They are scrawny and sinewy. But the round butt beats going to a plastic surgeon for a Brazilian butt lift any day! :P

Sitting trot bareback on Miles is quite an ab workout!! Also shoveling manure keeps my arms in nice shape...

I imagine I would be pretty pear-shaped if not for riding. It keeps my butt small, and my hips from migrating east to west. Also gives my abs a good workout, even if they are covered by a rather large layer :shoot:

I think i can blame my knee issues on posting the trot for years......

I imagine w/o a horse I'd look like a blimp by now.

I sure would like the why on the round rump thing - what makes you think the horse riding gives you round bunns????

Great calves and very muscular thighs. My inner thighs are oddly strong. Oh, and it's fun grossing my sister out with how I can flatten my calf muscle. hehe.

My back on the other hand, hasn't faired as well. :P

I'm guessing the rounder buns come from posting and cantering and jumping. What makes me know that my buns are rounder is a quick look in the mirror!

And, Lion, I had the reverse experience with my back. I was worried that my chronic back problems would be worse with riding. Instead, my back has never been better. When I stop riding for a week or two or three, my back aches again. I think riding is a really good exercise for developing core strength.

All i know is with increasing age I don't have to turn around to see my bunns in the mirror anymore. :pissed: :mallet: And I've ridden daily since I was in my teens.

Great ass, great abs, fabulous arms that people comment on whenever I go sleeveless and for my mind -- lots of confidence. Yeah, I have a certain swagger. Horse girls ROCK and sometimes, I feel sorry for non-horse girls. They seem so...helpless.

I'm almost 52. With riding and a little hair color, I can easily pass for 37. Good horsie! Have another carrot! I love ya, boy!

Not sure if actually riding has helped my posture, or if I'm just thinking about my posture more often....but I notice a difference. I've been trying to think about shoulders over hips - when walking, sitting, driving....it's amazing how frequently I'm slumped one way or another. Driving is the worst! And how often I let myself "collapse" to the side or forwards when turning or slowing down. So I have been much more conscious of my non-riding posture and think it's been good for me.

And my bad back has been much better since taking pilates and riding. Of course my plantar faciitis won't go away, and I blame riding....so I guess pros and cons. :P
