Faux Finish was apparently a good girl. Jogged well and stood like a rock and won her 3 year old class, so yay!!! Off to a great start at our end ...

Next show is Springfest at Our Farm once again on the 14th

Hopefully they will remember to take and send some pictures for the poor anxious owner up in Canada ... :innocent:

How is your mare doing HofG???

Haha horrendous! Decaf has never even seen an indoor before and the first class in, just grrrr.... BUT, by the third time in she was an absolute angel comparatively.

We did nothing ribbon wise, 1 out of 1, 3 out of 3, but I was just happy that her behaviour was better when we left then when we got there. I bought her from the breeder last June and only took her to one show to compete and one show to just hang out so this was only her third time away from home. Hopefully after a few more she'll start settling down.

TCF - I saw Faux Finish though and she's gorgeous and was very well behaved! Lovely, lovely horse you have there.

Congrats to Faux Finish and True Colours!!! :cheer: When we show on the 14th, if my husband isn't too flustered to remember, I'll try to get him to take a picture of her for you.

MintyFresh--It sounds like it was a good experience. All I will be looking for will be to see improvement as they show with a hope that by Devon they will present themselves like ladies. My husband keeps grouchily telling me, "Without a BNH, there's no way you're going to get anything." And I keep telling him, I will consider it all a success if by the end of the season they go in, do what they are supposed to do without any hissy fits, and then get back on the trailer to go home--- all without making me want to tear my hair out.(Oh, and I hope I won't do anything to humiliate myself either! ;) ) If I get all that, and a chance to fulfill my dream of having a youngster at Devon, I will be THRILLED with that. I know they are nice horses; I don't have to be a winner for it to be a success.

My mare is hanging in. She was colicky off and on all weekend, but had a decent night last night so I am hoping we are coming out of it. :luck: :luck:

Hey Minty--How did you solve the braider dilemma??

I did end up finding a braider but Decaf was so antsy at having to stand still that I think I'm better off just doing it myself at home.

It's less stress for both of us that way.

I'll still look for a braider for the bigger shows, but for the one day stuff I'll just do it myself. Heck mine don't look any worse then they way they came out with Decaf jumping around. At home I know she'll stand still :)

I can pass the number on to you if you'd like it.

Thanks HofG! If you could get some pictures I would appreciate it SO much! :)

how is your girl doing today?

MintyFresh - it does get better - honestly it does! I think the first few shows they are on adrenaline overload and then everything settles for them once again and they setle into a routine just fine.
If you can bear it, hang out ringside for several hours until she is bored out of her tree. Eventually it sinks in that there is NOTHING to worry about and certainly nothing to get excited about either!

Thanks for the encouragement  . I just have to keep reminding myself that the first few shows usually don't go so well, lol.

She is super calm and quiet at home so I don't think it will take to long to adjust that over to the show ring. We did try the boredom thing, but the problem I have with Our Farm is that the entrance to the ring is from a parking area. Since I had to keep her walking (she's perfect as long as she's walking) I didn't want her to pound her legs on the pavement.

Hopefully in a few more shows she'll be okay with hanging out there. Since I'm a newbie handler I really want to try and watch what the pro's do. I know my lack of handling ability also impacted how we did.

I don't think it helped that she was in raging heat either. Poor girl got vick's by the nose for the first time and luckily that did seem to do the trick. I was convinced she was going to go in squatting and winking, lol.

My goal right now though is to forget the ribbons and just have her behave better each time and calmer when we leave then when we arrive. If we can keep that up she'll be a great seasoned horse in no time :) .

Minty--You're going to feel SOOOO much better when you see what a disaster Hope and I are at the next show! You'll feel like a pro then. :teehee: Mine is the same way, generally quiet and respectful at home, but when I took her to Dressage at Devon as a weanling, she had a few major hissy fits. She has gotten much better behaved since then, but she definitely has a certain amount of nervous/spookiness in her that only comes out in new situations. So I'm sure it's going to take awhile for her to take all these shows in stride.

It sounds to me like you did as well as could be expected at the first show. I remember being mortified when Hope showed at DAD because she had a bouncing hissy fit on the end of the line the first time she was trotted around. I was telling a friend of mine, "I must have the worst behaved weanling here..." She looked at me and said, "Did she flip over, get away from the handler and run around the ring?" I said, "Uh, well, no, she just acted up a bit." My friend said, "Well MINE did. TWICE."

That's part of the reason why I want to show Hope. She is a little afraid of strange men for some reason and I'm certain she would behave worse for a stranger. (On the other hand, a handler would actually know what they were doing where me... :shoot: :duh: )The thing is, she's the best behaved baby I've ever had at home. I just have to desensitize her so she's the same way at a show. And better now than when she's a 1300lb horse under saddle.

Barring unforseen disasters, I will be at the next show, so we can muddle through together. And yes, I would like the braider's name and number. You can email me(It's in my profile) with it if you like. I can't braid at all so...

Oh, one more question...what did you wear on your feet?? I was wondering what I should wear on my feet. I figure it's got to be some kind of flat shoe or something or knowing me, I'll end up in sand. It's so much eaiser at the dressage shows where you can just wear khakis and sneakers.

TrueColurs--my mare is doing a bit better with the colicking lately, but is still not normal yet. She has a hard time during these warm days because for some reason, every fly in the county attaches itself to her. She has been miserable being stuck inside with all the flies, but there isn't much I can do about it except keep her in a fly sheet and have fans on her(And it's not even halfway through April yet. ).

LOL, my girl is already 1300lbs or at least well on her way there. We did some practice today in a "scary" part of the farm and she was really good.

I just wore paddock boots, comfy and they looked nice. That seems to be the general footwear for the hunter breeding.

I'm sending you the braider info.

I enjoyed seeing everyone at the show. The divisions were light, with some not filling at all. Some of the classes had just 2 entries. That usually happens early in the season...but the pony breeding classes were packed.
I will take my yearling TB filly to the next one. My others will come out at the end of the month at Four Seasons & Mileview.

Four Seasons Farm is having 2 "A" rated shows at Dundraven Farm in NJ. The breeding classes are on Thursday, April 19th, and Thursday April 26th.
I believe they have a website.
