I can't believe I never noticed it before in the three years that I've had Miles. He has a scar straight across his tongue - the only thing I think could cause it would be a bit - a straight and severe bit. Or a wire of some sort, because it is rather thin. I've been using a bitless bridle on him off and on since I got him (and since winter I now use it exclusively) because he just does not do well in a bit. Now I know why, I guess.

I did notice when I first bought him that he also has an old scar across the back of his fetlock on his RH - I always wondered what it was from. Now I'm wondering if it was a rope burn...

My poor pony.

I wonder what he went through before I got him. :sigh:

Awwwww!!! Poor Miles!!

I knew a QH that had a cut tounge - from a wire wrapped around a bit - she was a barrel racer in a previous owners world and that was 'the only way we could stop her'. :mallet: :pissed: :mallet: :pissed:

She became a lovely Dressage mare. :cheer: And had excellent brakes: with bitless bridle.

She was never shown, but she taught her 2nd owner how to teach a horse with issues to have a new wonderful life. <3

Sometimes I wish they could talk - other times I know I'd be heartsick at the depth and breadth of human cruelty. :,(

Pip does as well. He was 2 and a half when I bought him. Has a scar straight across his tongue. He is a TB that didn't make it through training - purchased at Keeneland Jan 05 - did two more sales in WA, and was a no sale - then they sold him to the girl who does some work for them, she had him three months and then I bought him. He is a very opinionated, silly beast with a personality bigger than the barn.

I have no idea what the scar is from - we noticed it when we looked at him to buy him. He goes in a rubber D and doesn't seem to have any issues from it although it seems at times he has a little difficulty moving food to his back teeth, like carrots. Other than that he seems none the worse for wear. The only other thing is that he was obviously ear twitched - he seriously doesn't like having his right ear touched, the left one is ok. In time he will get over the right ear thing, once he figures out we are never going to grab it and twist it.

I would venture to say that your TB got that scar on his tongue from a chiffney bit. They are used on sales TBs. If he had gotten away from his handler with it in his mouth, and stepped on the shank, or if someone yanked down on it..maybe over correction type thing, a chiffney would nearly cut a tongue in half.
