Well I was just taking a couple of photos of my youngsters during that beautiful day yesterday and realized that either my two year old is a shrimp or my yearling in a monster(well, not really, it just seems that way)...as they are practically the same size. They are full sisters, by Sempatico(16.1) out of an Art Deco mare (16.2). The two year old is hovering just out of reach of 15.2hh(15.1 1/2hh FOREEEEVER). The yearling was 14.3hh the last time I checked but may have grown since as when they are standing side by side they look close to the same height(the 2 year old has much more bulk). Both will have their birthdays in May.

So show me your two year olds. (And your yearlings if you want). And tell me how tall they are and their parents are. I know some of you have real giants with your 16hh yearlings, but what size are most people's yearlings and two year olds? I'm not really worried, my riding mare was only 15.1hh in the summer of her two year old year and she ended up 16.2hh and Hope is growing slowly like that one, but I just want an excuse to see everyone's youngsters. So photos please and brag away!

All I have is scruffy field shots right now until they start showing in a couple of weeks. Here's my two year old and yearling side by side so you can see they are close to the same size. The two year old is the one in front. And the second photo is all three of my girls. The last one is a yearling by Sempatico out of a 16.1hh Rolls Royce mare.

I don't have pictures to show but I purchased a 2 year old TB gelding last year who was kind of shirmpy. I kept referring to him as "Pip squeak". I bought him anyway - and he has grown in the last 8, almost 9 months. He was around maybe 15 hands when I bought him at 2 and a half and he is probably close to 16 hands now. He is adding bulk as well as height and will probably finish some where around 16.1 - 16.2. Which is a size I like.

He still has a baby face and it doesn't help that his neighbor is a very bulky Dutch Warmblood who looks massive standing next to him but isn't all that much taller. Maybe an inch or so.

How big was your two year old last year at this time? Maybe she just hit a plateau and you are going to get a growth spurt soon. Mine seemed to do that in the fall of his two year old year.

Seal--Aawww, no fair. I want to see a picture of yours! Hope, my coming two year old, was about 14.2hh this time last year. It's kind of hard for me to gain perspective because I sold a two year old filly last year that was 16.1hh at two and her dam was 15.2! But that filly had much more TB in her and I think they tend to mature faster then tail off at three, where my Oldenburg mare grew three more inches after her third birthday. I'm hoping Hope hits 16 or 16.1hh; she is for me, and I don't need a giant. She's still got plenty of time to grow. It just becomes more obvious when her little(full) sister seems like she might pass her by her first birthday! Hope is going through a "plump" stage now, and the last time she did that she had a growth spurt right after and then slimmed back down again. I'm kind of hoping that's what she does this year; although I could do without an awkward, butt high spurt, in the middle of hunter breeding season!

HOGF, I love your babies! :one: My rising 3 year old is the same height as my 2 year old. My June '06 baby I haven't measured lately but she appears to be average for her breeding. She's out of a 16.1 TB and by Rio Grande. My 3 year old full TB is out by AFR as is my 2 year old. The younger of those two should reach 16.2 + while the 3 year old won't be as big.

It's always such a crap shoot isn't it???? Yours are just lovely though.

Thanks Quinn!! But you guys aren't following the directions...where are your pictures???(which ones on your webshots??) And yeah, it's a crap shoot all right. Size doesn't really matter all that much to me. I'm sure Hope will be big enough for me to not look silly on and that's all the matters. I wouldn't trade her for a 17hh giant any day!

no pictures right now, they are all looking like hairy yaks :jaw: these days, but oh my Tom they are growing!
The one rising 2 yr old colt (full TB by A Fine Romance) is about 16.1.
Not so tall, but handsome and very muscular is my rising 2 yr old Iroko colt who is out of AFR's full sister. He is about 15.2 right now.
And my soon-to-be yearling filly by AFR out of Jeweller's Mark (16.1) is tall and very big built. I haven't measured her recently though.
I'm looking forward to seeing these babies sans hair!

When do we ever follow directions???? :one:

I'm with Fred on this one, they aren't looking their "best" at the moment. My 2 year old red head "Romanza" is probably at or around 15.3 and so is the other red head "Hopeless Romantic" as a 3 year old. She is still quite babyish though so has more growing to do.

Thanks Fred. But you guys are no fun! Mine weren't looking their best either, but I gave them up. I could have waited couple weeks when they'd be clipped and pulled and bathed, but NOOOOOOO!!! I showed you the ugly truth as they are now! You guys are cowards!

Unfortunately my WB/TB colt is only about 14.3 hands at about 20 months. I'm getting worried that he won't grow, but I have to keep telling myself that he's from a slow growing line, so it's going to be awhile before he's done. He also hasn't started going through his spring growth spurt yet, so maybe there's hope. He's also too fuzzy/muddy to get a good picture of.

Sprucie, take heart. I just measured Rosie tonight for bossy Renee. :nyah: She will be a yearling June 10th but she's only at 14 HH behind and 13.2 HH front. Smooth ride. :one: :one: :one: :cheer:

I will take pics this week-end. Mud and all. We aren't cowards madam, we be proud Canadians.

bossy, bossy, bossy. mutter, mutter, mutter.

Well, whatever it takes Quinn!! ;) That's much better. NOW, you're following instructions! So what are the parent's sizes on your Rosie? I think the last time I measured my smaller yearling (out of a 16.1hh mare) she was about 14 hh. I don't do the measure the butt thing, it just depresses me. :sigh:

Sprucie--those slow growing lines really make you wait, but you'll still be getting height at six when the rest of ours are long done. Just hang on!

HOGF your youngsters are lovely! My coming 2 year old is currently 15hh and I expect him to reach 16hh. His sire is barely 16hh and his dam is 15.1 1/2. I'm going to have to get off my but and get pics soon....but he's soooo hairy. :brickwall:

Thanks Maddie. Two out of three of mine are pretty much shed out. Unfortunately, the third, who is supposed to be showing soon, is still shedding out huge yak hair puffs. I'm still trying for the currying it off approach, but I have a long way to go!

Anyway, we don't care how hairy he is, show him to us anyway! I can't be the only one brave enough to show my ungroomed, long-maned, hairy little monsters!

I'm afraid we are going to have a "Baby Huey" on our hands! :jaw: This youngster is going to be turning 2 this year, and is already 17 H and climbing higher on the rear. (Dad is 17 H Warmblood, and Mom is 16.2 H Trak. Mare.) Don't know where this kid is getting the height from, but he sure is shooting up like a weed.
Unfortunately he got into leaping into snowbanks like his dad, and came down with one front leg between the snow bank, and under the wooden fence. :argh: He took off a large hunk of flesh from the front of one of his long sticks. :( Going to be a long process for this darn injury, but we are hoping it heals with not too much scaring. :luck:
Will try to take a photo of him when it dries up a little. Right now we have a lot of mud, ringed with those blessed snow banks.

Love your colour pak Heart of Gold <3 We have just purchased a lovely 16.2 H Art Deco Granddaughter by Kodachrome, and are going to try for a piece of the colour pie ourself. :one: :luck:
