I hope you find a suitable situation. I'm going to move this though down to classifieds after I add another forum there. Hang on to your hats.... it will be moved in about 5 minutes. |

Thank you to everyone who has viewed so far... I am leaving for the weekend and do not have access to a computer at home. However, if you have any questions or would like to contact me, please feel free to do so @ (540)672-8594. To add a few more details, I have found three things to be issues so I will explain them up front: 1) SO will be relocating with me. He is, however, horsey and will help if a live in "handyman" is an option. 2) I own 2 horses. I am willing to use one as a lesson mount. (the horse pictured in my avatar) The other is a 3YO that I started, and is my future (all the way to regulars I hope) show horse. 3) I have critters. 3 cats (2 mousers and 1 indoor declawed cat), and 2 dogs, though one could go to a family member if necessary. The other is NOT optional, she stays with me. She is a Lab, and horse broke, and is an excellent trail boss and lesson assistant. She demonstrates jumps. Again, thanks in advance! Abbie |

I wish you the best of luck Abbie! If I were you, I would market myself toward a larger show stable that needs someone to work th "B" string from home. You already know this, but you do have a LOT of extras! My mom used to have a BM with SO working for her. The only problem was that the SO was a slug and only earned PT work. He never picked up an outside job, rather chose to grow a "cash crop" out in the back field. The only other advice I have is to have a clear set of goals lined out, and backup plans for everything! I have found that most disgruntled employees are so because they never conveyed their true goals and desires to their employer. |

This facility has a job opening listed on their website. This barn is pretty big, they do a lot of lessons and run many schooling shows throughout the year (they are big shows). I'm not sure how much they do on the A circuit but I would imagine they have a lot of horses that participate. I know that this barn has members in the local fox hunting club and they participate in hunts. I do not know any of the owners of this barn personally- I have actually never been there- but this barn has been around forever. Irish Fox Stables |

The "B" string is fine with me! HA HA Seriously, I enjoy the beginners to about the advanced intermediate riders. I would love to have a group of kids to tote to the local stuff, with a few earning "A" show privledges. I am NOT necessarily looking for an UBER fancy "A" show barn, I am looking for a fun, well run facility with good resources. I do have ideas of my own, and (I believe) a good teaching style, and I hope to find a facility that will allow me to use those ideas and support me while teaching. I would also be interested in having a few re-trains or sale horses on the side, and to take some greenies to horse shows. I am at my best with the green beans, and I enjoy starting horses. I hope to find a position where I have time to do this as well as teach. And finally, I hope to find a barn with some good trainers, to help me advance, also. If my youngster continues developing well, I am hoping to take him all the way to the Regulars, but I would like to take him through the First Years, at the least. (maybe by then 4' won't look so scary) I do understand that working with my own comes second to my job. My goals would be to have a good reputation as an instructor, and have parents WANTING to send me their kids. I also would like to develop or start enough successful horses to be sought after in that respect. I do want my own (small) barn one day, and I would like to focus on training youngsters and sale horses. If teaching stays lucrative, I would continue with a select group on my own. As far as my SO is concerned, I still look at him and wonder how I got so lucky. I have to almost CONVINCE him NOT to work 7 days a week!!! He has his own equipment for his painting business, and he's very good. The good thing also is that type of business can be lucrative anywhere. If he's at home, he's on the phone, calling realtors, contractors, and home owners non-stop. Everytime I wash jeans I pull about 4 or 5 business cards out of his pockets! He is willing to help around the farm on the side...and of course, groom for me at shows, if he can! I believe I have alot to offer. I could also "computerize" a barn if necessary. Paperwork and records are important to an efficient, lucrative facility. I also have leadership skills learned in the military that alot of managers lack (in my opinion). You can have all the knowledge in the world, but if you don't have the ability to direct people and delegate responsibility, it is very hard to be a successful manager. You have to have separation and professionalism at work...and be able to direct without having personal feelings in the way. Now since I have written a novel, I will sign off and hope this is read by my future employer!

I just got my new issue of COTH today, and it looks like there are several good possibilities in their classifieds. Do you have a subscription? If not, I would be more than happy to relay some of the more promising ones to you. |

I am bumping this and sending out a plea YET AGAIN!!! I have sent out more resumes in the last month than I have my entire life! If any of you out there know ANYBODY who is looking, please let me know! I have found alot of very good looking jobs, but for some reason, they seem to be with dressage facilities. Would these facilities be offended if I wasn't riding dressage, and wanted to continue my H/J competing? I love dressage, I think it's beautiful, but I've never had the urge to do it COMPETITIVELY. Of course, that great Mike Henegan position has to ride PONIES! I'm 5'10"...oh well... I am VERY WILLING to relocate anywhere, and I am willing to drive for an interview anywhere from New Jersey down to South Carolina for a weekend if necessary... Anyone? Hello? Anyone? I REALLY hate my office job....must....get...out... |
