I can set gymnastics for Tip, no problem. It's when I try to set them for my sister's large pony that I run into trouble, because I always forget how to change the striding; and all of my books talk about setting for horses. We like to use placement poles for Zazu to get him to use himself better over jumps, as he likes to be flat and do the whole Superman thing with his front legs, so the placement poles make him think that he is doing a gymnastic without actually doing a gymnastic (he gets bored with them very quickly.) How do I set the following exercises for a large pony: | X | (trotting in, bounce pole, crossrail, bounce pole) | X | (cantering in, bounce pole, crossrail, bounce pole) |...X (pole, one stride, crossrail) | | | (three trotting poles) For the first two exercises, would there have to be any difference in the placement of the final landing pole if the first element were raised to a crossrail? X X | What other fun things can I do with Katie and Zazzy, and how do I set those exercises? |

I always thought a large pony would use the same striding as a horse? I would probably set a very simple exercise for a horse and then maybe adjust from there as needed to come up with a # that is shorter if needed. fwiw, I really love the 101 jumping exercises book, not that I have been able to really use it yet, lol. But it's a fun read and gave me lots of ideas when my mare starts jumping

Yes, I love that book as well. The problem is that when I tried subtracting from the horse strides, Zazzy was stretching too much to get the distances. Zazzy is not a very forward-moving pony on the best of days, and my sister is not always a forward-moving rider (the child is a stick) so while we are working on that on the flat, we'd still like the two of them to be set up for success over fences. |

If you can get a copy of Anna Jane White-Mullin's book Winning she has all the suggested stridings for gymnastics for all sizes in a chart. |
