Is it possible to find a jumping saddle on the cheap, say under $300 that isn't as flat as a pancake? I just want a bit of a padded flap or some knee rolls, for my nervous nellie self on my spooky green horses. I thought I wouldn't have much trouble since I am freakishly small (about 5' 3") and can fit in a 16.5 but I'm having no luck. I like the crosbys but the PDN is not gonna cut it for me. I don't care if security IS in my seat and legs, darn it, I want the psychological boost of at least a bit of something extra. I'm selling a pancake saddle that is just a postage stamp, and I have two others I got that are way too long in the flap for my stubby legs. |

Depends on what you're looking for. I've seen Stübbens (a classic if not currently trendy brand) go on eBay for that much lately (bad time of year to be selling tack ), and they make some very secure jumping saddles.

Are you looking specifically for a hunter saddle or will a nice jumping saddle (it has a round cantle) do? I have a 16.5 super cushy one that doesn't fit my big old butt anymore (okay, it hasn't fit me since I was 16, and I've kept it) that I'd be willing to part with for around 300 or so (less maybe, if you promised to truly love it always).

I got my Zaldi Star off of ebay for $350. I LOVE it. I'm not sure new ones are still be sold on ebay and they seem to run about $900 in tack stores. Even still, it is a very comfortable saddle that was purchased to get through the greenie spooky stage. It was worked great. |

I've had luck with usedsaddles.com I have a saddle on "Trial" with them right now...I didn't expect the billets to be as short as they are...I need to borrow a new girth before I ride in it Aaagghhh!! I found them to have *really* competitive pricing on their used saddles and they have been super to work with. I think it's worth checking their site out.

I loved mine too. Unfortunately I bought a 17" and the seat was just too small for my butt so I sold it. I would buy another in a hearbeat though in a larger size if I found another fr $350! |

Well, a local tack store did inform me that I would not pin in a hunter class with a round cantle. However, since I am currently jumping Green N Spooky in a dressage saddle (if you call flopping spastically over crossrails "jumping" ) and my last jumping saddle was a jeffries falcon event with a round cantle, I don't really care. Luckily my legs are stubby so I can go with a straighter flap then many. |

There's a nice HDR on Ebay right now with only a few hours left that is just over $300.. looks to have knee rolls etc. I've never ridden in that brand, but have heard good things about them, especially for the price... There is also a Beval Devon 2000 (16.5") on there for well under $300 - currently $238 that might also work. There looks to be some cosmetic stuff (two tears on the knee rolls) that you might want to fix eventually, but I doubt it would affect the function of the saddle. |
