What is the best way to sell a three year old pony prospect?

I don't want to post an ad on equine.com or dreamhorse, they just don't have the right audience. I've thought about pony finals auction as an option but what other venues would be an alternative? This pony has good bloodlines and is a small pony hunter prospect but I have no one to ride her.

In our area there isn't much hope unless you have a pony jock :brickwall: . I would get a video done and pimp the pony out to someone that does ponies in an area that has a better market. Some trainers will take a quality pony on consignment - make sure you have all the details in writing though.

I agree with 2hrs - can you find a reputable barn and trainer to send it to for miles?

Can you trailer in to a barn that has some good pony kids? Our barn has some fantastic riders, and area trainers just bring them ponies to ride. The kids are very much in demand at shows too. They each have their own pony, but they learn a lot from riding others too.

Thanks for the suggestions. This pony is coming three so not quite ready to go out and do anything serious. I'll probably hack her myself in the spring, throw an ad on bigeq and maybe send her to the pony finals auction with an agent.

I dabble in buying and reselling ponies and the best way to make money on them is to get them broke and jumping small fences. If you have a great natural change you can really add bucks. You can sell her at the pony finals auction unbroke, but to make serious money they need to be going well undersaddle.

I'd back her lightly now and just walk on the trails or even long line her if you don't feel she's ready yet. Then in the spring get her going lightly under tack and take her to some horse shows to just hang out and to gage her temperment. That way when you send her to pony finals, she'll be prepared for it. People spend more when they can try them out and really figure out what the pony can do rather than what it might be able to do.

Good luck to you.

Thank you Witchy, that sounds like good advice. When she went to my trainer for the walk-trot training she was actually sent home early. My trainer said she was the first two year old to ever walk into her barn knowing what her job was already. and she does have a natural change in the field that I hope carries over.
