Thanks everyone. I waffle between feeling very strong and ok, then will break down in tears just a few moments later. I do feel like I did right by him and I do think I made the right decision, even though it made me so sad. I knew this moment would come eventually, and I remember thinking in the summer that he wouldn't make it through this winter. I hope he is grazing in the biggest field he ever saw, without a care in the world that Miles is going to run up his butt and chase him away!

I'm so sorry. I've been there, done that and it sucks. But - sometimes you have to be the grownup and do the right thing which I am sure you did. Good for you for thinking of his needs over your own. |

Somewhere in time's own space There must be some sweet pastured place Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow Some paradise where horses go, For by the love that guides my pen I know great horses live again. ~Stanley Harrison

I'm so sorry Fish Cheeks... those photos you posted are wonderful I had to make the decision to put my old guy down a few years ago - you just know when it's the right time. You did the right thing.

Just sorry to read this but thank you for posting. Most of us will be faced with this decision at some time. Your posting makes us appreciate our horses just a little bit more, and understand better how we will make this difficult decision when it is our turn. Thanks and hugs to you. |

Fishy, You're an amazingly strong person for making that decision.
It's never easy, but you can take comfort that you did the very best thing for the horse. He's romping and stomping in his pain-free bod.
