O.k. I need some suggestions on how to make some sort of treat or cookie so that I can put my horses supplement in it... She's on red cell and isn't fond of it. I've tried some other stuff but have not got the same results as the red cell. So I'm thinking of putting it in a cookie or something so that she eats it because pouring it over grain isn't doing the trick anymore. So please anyone got receips or ideas that would be nice. Thankyou!!!

What kind of grain is she getting? Our OTTB will NOT eat his supplements. We quickly solved the problem by adding weight builder into his Ultium and wetting all the grain and supplements enough to dissolve all the supplements. He needs the weight builder, and it acts a bit like bran in that it swells with water and holds the supplements with its stickiness. |

I have a VERY picky mare. Well, I would be too if I went through all the meds she had to go through last year...... I have resigned to just doing all her additions orally by syringe. If it's a powder, I mix it in baby food carrots..... and squirt it into her mouth. I generally use the 60cc syringe, but I also have a metal oral dosing syringe from when my boyfriend gives stuff to our cows... I use that if it's something that tastes really bad because you can get it way back on her tongue. I have not found anything that will get her to eat stuff out of her feed bin.... any change and she goes on strike from eating. |

Well she gets her custom grain in the a.m and pellets in the p.m. But it doesn't matter which you pour it over.

I second Cindi's suggestion and would add that you can also try adding apple sauce or apple juice to the mush, along with carrot pieces if needed. My mare needs more water, so I turn her pellets/beet pulp to mush and add apple juice and carrots and she will eat/drink most of it. |

I'm a big fan of the dosing syringe, although my horses aren't.
I usually use applesauce, but the idea of babyfood carrots is interesting. Iago prefers the brightly colored flavored applesauce, esp the blue kind.

I'd add water top her grain, and peppermint flavoring or somethign else strong. Anything to discuise the smell and difference in consistency. |
