Ugh..I hope the suede knee rolls on my saddle don't tear
The stitching is tight and they look safe...but I knwo looks can be deceiving. I wonder if I could have them removed or redone in regular leather. |

I have a very old Stübben Siegfried with suede (aka "doeskin") knee rolls, and I *love* it. (I'll never part with this saddle). When I'm cleaning tack, I just scruffle up the suede with one of those little rubber brushes they sell at some shoe stores and cobbler's shops for dealing with footwear. It's stayed remarkably suedey, and hasn't smoothed out in the eight years I've had it (bought it very used). Once a year or so, I brush baby powder/talc into the suede and let it sit for a bit then use the brush to get it up. Keeps the suede looking very fresh and clean. I *love* suede knee rolls (but suspect that some brands hold up way better than others). |

Yeah! Whatever happened to suede? I swear, you leavea sport for 20 years and when you come back everything is different. I love suede knee rolls. Even if they do wear out, you'd think they'd be fairly easy to replace. |

Thanks, snaffle...what you said! I know some folks laugh at me when I complain about this, but honestly, I just LOF my old Pariani saddle with the suede kneerolls...and I had the same shock you did coming back to the sport after 20 years out...wow, all the knee blocks, thigh blocks, butt blocks, whatever blocks! Yikes.
Just gimme that good ol' suede at the knees and I'm good to go. Sigh.

I got my daughter the cutest little 13" Colligate flat saddle with suede knee rolls. I wasn't thrilled with the suede, because of the look, but now I love the saddle for her. My trainer's daughter has a saddle with suede knee rolls and a suede seat. It sure keeps those little ones in place. |
