Sun Sentinal article

Today's article in the paper.

The last paragraph of the article states:
"Meanwhile Connecticut veterinarians uncovered a case of the virus on Dec. 24 but said they've found no link to the Wellington outbreak. The horse is recovering and no new cases have developed, though New York agriculture officials said horses in Long Island are being tested."

Does this mean that there are new cases on Long Island? Anyone know?

We have NOT been able to verify that, one way or the other...
As usual, no one is saying....
And if the Long Island Professional Horseman's association(LIPHA) can't unearth it, we're screwed.
Prez has invited 2 Vets to Monday night's meeting to speak/discuss....

I was talking to a friend last night - and her vet told her that the CT horse had been shipped back to Vermont, when it clearly says on the FEA website that the horse is still being treated at the clinic.

I wish that some organization would take the lead up in Zones 1 and 2 in terms of diseminating correct information.

I also was talking to a trainer the other night, and mentioned that I wasn't planning on shipping my animals anywhere until this thing is resolved and she commented that her horses had NOT been at the clinic while the infected horse was there, so it would be fine for me to bring mine in. I felt weird when I had to say that her horses were just at a show and who knows if any of THOSE animals had been at the clinic

I am concerned that CT peeps are not 1) being properly informed of what's going on and 2) not taking a broader perspective of the problem

This is the heart of the matter with this outbreak, I think. Someone wanted to take a pony from me on trial. At another time, I would have no problem with that, but right now I feel uncomfortable. The man told me that there barn was very safe, and no horses were coming in. He was speaking to me from the schooling area at a local show where his clients were showing. He just hadn't really thought of that. The very safest thing you can do is stay at home and follow basic quarantine procedures with trades people. This might be overkill, but it might not.
