OOC: Just something that popped into my head. Join if you like, and we'll see where it goes. Finally got around to posting it. If this isn't the right place for it, can someone move it, please? Thanks.

For future reference:

Pyrokinesis - Ability to set things on fire with one's mind.
Hydrokinesis - Ability to summon/manipulate water with one's mind.
Aerokinesis - Ability to manipulate air with one's mind.
Tetrakinesis - Ability to manipulate the earth with one's mind.
Photokinesis - Ability to bend/manipulate light with one's mind. (My character will be the only one who can do this. You'll see why.)

Oh, as a final note:
The deities' names are simply anagrams of the element they govern. *shrug*

IC:

"Get out of here, and never come back! You're a freak, an abomination, a disgrace! I never want to see you again!" The boy was flung out of the tavern, and a sack attached to a stick was flung out onto the ground after him. "You aren't one of us! Photokinetics are heretics. Light exists outside the realm of the gods. Yet you choose to use your unnatural powers anyway. Begone!" The person speaking was large, muscular, dark. The very antithesis of the boy he'd just thrown out. "Go, before you call down the wrath of the Divine on us!"

There were four deities that were accepted and worshipped by society. Threa, the Earth Goddess, who chose Tetrakinetics as Her vessels of enforcement. Rife, the Fire God, who granted Pyrokinetics their abilities. Rawet, the Water God, who imbued Hydrokinetics with their powers. Finally, there was Ira, the Air Goddess, who bestowed upon Aerokinetics their divine manipulations. There had once been a fifth deity, Thigl, the Light Goddess, and there used to be Photokinetics that walked the planet. But that was no more. Rife had accused Thigl of building an army of Photokinetics to overthrow the other Kinetics and the other deities. Thigl, of course, had always been the mediator of any conflict among the divine, and Her Photokinetics as a result had always been peacekeepers, and had the most power. They had to; they functioned as the 'police force' of the civilization. But with the accusations, Rife's implications started a war that had wiped out Thigl, Her Photokinetics, and the rest of the people in the world. The other deities had had to start over with everything, and had lived in harmony, and so had Their Kinetics.

Thigl and Her Photokinetics were the stuff of legends. None of them put Thigl or Photokinetics in a flattering light. To be a Photokinetic was to be a heretic, a blasphemer.

The small boy stood, his silver-irised eyes fixated on the man standing in the light of the doorway. He couldn't understand what had happened; he hadn't been doing anything, and suddenly, the man had been calling maniacally for him. "I'm right here!" the boy had said, and the man had turned and gasped, his eyes hardening.

"Damned!" had been the first thing out of the man's mouth toward the boy. "You just materialized out of nowhere! You bent the light around you to make yourself invisible! Heretic. Blasphemer. Hellhound. Leave this place."

And now here the boy stood, uncomprehending. "But...but Father, I..."

"Leave!" the man roared, brown eyes blazing. The boy let out a choked sob and picked up the bag and stick and ran, tears pouring down his face. "Never show yourself in this place again, by Threa! I will kill you if ever you darken my doorstep!"

"What, what are you doing? Where's my child?" a woman said, appearing behind the man, who shut the door on the still running child.

"He is hellbound. You saw his eyes."

"All Kinetics' eyes are like that when they're little! Once they get older, their affinity makes itself known, and their eye color changes accordingly! You know that!"

"His eyes were white, and now they are silver. He's a Photokinetic. I refuse to harbor a sacreligious being like him."

"He's your son!"

"No son of mine will be one of the Damned Photokinetics!" The woman let out a cry and flung open the door, intending to get her son. But the boy was nowhere to be found.

"I hope you're proud of yourself," she said, turning to the man with tears in her eyes.

She died three weeks later of grief from the loss of her only child.

xXx 13 Years Later xXx

That boy was no longer little, nor did he ever cry. He was tall and broad, despite being only 17, though his simple brown robe hid his solid physique from view. It annoyed him to no end that he'd grown up to be built like his father. He'd managed to erase all recollection of that night, but it always came back to haunt him in the one place he couldn't escape them: his dreams. They were full of a face that looked so much like his it was eerie, but his eyes, instead of being silver, were brown and full of hatred. Hatred towards a boy he had spawned, hatred founded on something that his son had had no say in.

"Nihil!" a woman's voice called. Nihil sighed and turned around, his hood obscuring all aspects of his modelesque face: sculpted cheekbones, long, straight nose, thin lips, light dusting of silver facial hair that spread from his jaw to just under his nose. His hood also covered his unruly silver hair. The color silver was his brand, his trademark, what betrayed his identity. Dyes did nothing; the silver always shone through.

His silvery eyes studied the woman as she approached, and he said quietly, "Mikaela, what is it?"

"Please, Nihil, you don't have to leave."

"Yes, Kae, I do. I've been discovered." Again. "I can't stay here any longer; not without bringing harm to you and your kin. I won't do that. You've done so much for me over the past seven years, but I won't endanger you any longer." With that, he turned around and vanished. No farewells, no goodbyes, nothing.

He allowed the light to refract off his body once more when he'd gotten far enough away so that Mikaela wouldn't be able to track him down by following the air displacement she was so receptive to, being an Aerokinetic. He growled at the image of her ice-blue eyes piercing his silver ones, pleading with him not to leave. But he had no choice.

He was pulled out of his ruminations by a noise. "You have until the count of five to reveal yourself before I start hurling Photon Darts," Nihil said, clenching his hand and making glowing needles form in between his fingers as he did so. "One...two...four..."

"You skipped three." A voice answered with a smirk shining through in the tone. The young woman emerged from the forest that surrounded them and hovered for a moment before gracefully touching the leaf covered ground with her bare feet. She moved towards the young man with a small smile decorating her face. Somehow she made almost as much noise as she did when she was hovering over the ground. In fact the girl was quite certain that if the boy wasn't watching her he wouldn't have even know she was approaching him. "You're of the Light." She said with a small tilt of her head. "I never thought I'd see one such as yourself. I'm glad I have." Her smile grew. "No need to be afraid of me. I will bring you no harm. I'm of the Air and yet I have an affinity with the Earth so I am branded something similar to yourself. Though I can hide my natures far better than yours." She teased lightly. He ice blue eyes tinkled as she paused directly in front of him. "Silver." She breathed as she observed his features.

"Yes, silver," Nihil replied, watching the young woman approaching him. "It's my hallmark. I can't exactly hide it, so I'm stuck in this monk's garb." He paused as she continued to study him. "You know," he said nonchalantly, Photon Darts disappearing, "that's a little unsettling, your fastidious study of myself.

"Well, you've found me out." He wasn't sure why he'd allowed this woman to get so close to him; it was starting to get on his nerves. Why wasn't she making claims regarding his unholiness? "I am of the Light, born that way, can't do a thing about it. I can't even stay invisible for the rest of my existence," he said, allowing bitterness to tinge that last comment. "You say you're glad to see a Photokinetic. That you won't harm me, because you're an Aerokinetic with Tetrakinetic affinities. You understand. So, now that you've found me, what do you plan to do with me?"

He waited for her answer and, when one wasn't exactly forthcoming, he asked, "Do you plan to turn me over so that I can die for my heresy? My blasphemy?" He clenched his fists and gnashed his teeth, eyes flashing as he started to glow faintly. "It isn't like I asked for this...this power to be given to me. As far as I knew, I was normal. Then, the next thing I knew, my father had thrown me out on the street, cursing me for something I had no control over. Ignoring my power would've been like him ignoring his, and..." he trailed off, realizing he was ranting.

He regained his composure as quickly as he could, and said, "Well. In any case, my name is Nihil. Would you tell me your name, hybrid Kinetic?"

"Thayet." She replied with a calm smile. Allowing only for a sigh to escape her lips before she began to speak again. "Don't let society get under your skin." Noticing that she was a bit far into his space she took a step back. "I don't know how well to terms you are with who you are but the only advice I can give you is to never let them make you anything but yourself." Thayet realized she was sounding a whole world of cryptic right now but the sound of snapping twigs caught her attention before she could hope to be of any further help. Without hesitation Thayet keened her ears to the noises and quickly deciphered all that she desired to know. "Ah, that would be a very good friend of mine." Thayet smiled before Nihil probably even noticed there had been movement or sounds. "Don't worry. He is like us in his own way and you have nothing to worry with about him either. I know trust probably isn't your strong suit but I'm sure you know the history of your kind enough to know that you would've patrolled over us in more ancient times."

"Thayet!" Makai shouted, the pile of coconuts he was carrying coming up to his chin. "Why in the world would you have knocked over my pile and then fly off without helping me pick it all up!" Suddenly, he felt a snag on his thong sandal and he tripped over a root, the coconuts flying everywhere.

"THAYET!" he shouted, standing up and dusting the sand off of his white shorts and the open white vest that exposed his tan chest and abs. His blue eyes began to glow as his muscles tensed up, and the coconuts began to levitate, the hydrokinetic boy lifting them by the milk contained within. They floated with him as he walked, moving around and occasionally whipping about, past his head causing his dark brown bangs to flutter.

Spotting the aerokinetic woman between a pair of large ferns, he focused on a coconut and hurled it at her head, only so hard as to give her a headache but not cause serious injury. "That oughta teach you to bail on--holy shit!" he said, stepping to the girl's side and seeing her new companion. The coconuts fell to the ground once more, as Makai said, "You're a photokinetic! You're an honest-to-Rawet photokinetic! Wow!"

Thayet used a stray bit of wind to try and push the coconut away from her head but all that did was slow the coconut down making it completely laughable when it collided with Thayet's skull. Thayet rubbed her head gingerly, she had seen that coming but she had hoped Makai would notice Nihil first and pretend to have manners. "Nihil, this is Makai. Makai, this is Nihil. Nihil, you must excuse Makai's rude behavior he seems to thing the world revolves around him but really only coconuts do." Thayet playfully glared at her longtime friend. Her short platinum blonde hair blowing softly in the wind that tended to pick up when she was teasing her friends. Thayet pushed her bangs back in order as she forced the wind to die down though it hadn't actually been strong enough to come anywhere close to annoying someone.

"Makai," Thayet started in a much more serious tone of voice as she straightened her frame to reveal that she was quite tall not as tall as the two men before her but still quite tall. "Is a very dear friend of mine. I'm sure you can see we're quite similar in the way we look at things. And I'm sure you can tell that we're not like the people you've encountered before." Thayet smiled her white teeth nearly matching her lightly tanned skinned as Makai liked to tease her. "I know you don't trust us" Thayet confessed as her tone grew even more serious. "But I hope in time that you will trust us." Thayet couldn't help but stare at her feet. She always felt odd meeting new people especially when she knew they weren't the sort of people to trust easily or to even befriend others easily. Thayet tugged lightly on the bottom of her dark purple shorts in her nervousness. She quickly noticed and began playing with the green t-shirt instead. Thayet coughed harshly in an attempt to stifle her nervous fidgeting.

"Right, well; Makai, Nihil; Nihil, Makai. We were on our way back to our lovely little abode. Where were you headed off to Nihil?" Thayet asked before realizing that he might not have anywhere to go to. "Well," She added hastily. "It's not very important. You know, you're more than welcome to come by our place for a quick breather. Makai and I were getting ready to prepare a meal and you look hungry so you could definitely join us if you so desired." Thayet almost couldn't believe how stupid she sounded. but she had to believe it because she was hearing it in the back of her head as if she was just some observer on this whole thing. There was no doubt in her mind that Makai and Nihil probably thought she was a bumbling idiot by now. Even if they didn't really think so she thought it enough for the both of them. She really hated meeting new people. It was always so damned awkward.

Thayet could only hope that Nihil or Makai spoke up in enough time to stop Thayet from making a complete ass of herself because the silence only made her want to talk more even though she really had nothing to say or at the very least nothing that they wanted to hear. She was quite certain of that. Even if her certainty didn't mean she was correct in that.

Nihil could tell that Thayet was waiting for someone to say something in reply, and, though it was slightly amusing to watch her flounder, Nihil wasn't a bad person at heart. So...

"I take it by your rather hasty cover-up that you deduced that I don't have anywhere to go," he said, face stonelike. "Well, you managed to hit the nail on the head. I wouldn't let it bother me, except that this has been going on since I was four. I'm now seventeen. It gets a little bothersome after about the first six or seven years." He was rambling, getting dangerously close to ranting. Ranting had never done him any good; no one cared enough to listen. All the same, the past was no place to linger. Let what has happened alone, and always move forward. That was Nihil's private mantra. Divinity knows he'd done enough retrospection to last himself a lifetime.

He fell silent once more, allowing his mind to ramble until it finally slid to a stop. He'd formed his opinions of Thayet and Makai. They had their idiosyncrasies, but they were good people. They seemed trustworthy. But that could just be a facade. It had happened to Nihil before; people who seemed so perfect, like people whom he could place his trust in, had betrayed him. Sold him out. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts before they derailed again, he said, "It would be a pleasure to accompany you to your 'lovely little abode'." His voice, although mocking, lacked any real venom.

Making sure his hood was covering his face (although it hadn't helped at all with Thayet, nor had it helped with Makai, both of whom had immediately known he was a Photokinetic), he said, "Whenever you two are ready, please lead the way." It can't hurt to see them in their element, he thought, stifling a grin rather effectively; it became a slight upturning at one corner of his mouth. This humor certainly wasn't normal for him, and he couldn't fathom where it was coming from. Something about these two made him...not care about what he was. "Oh, and it's my pleasure to have made your acquaintances, Thayet, Makai," he added belatedly.

She moved though the woods swiftly in the silent way she'd been trained all her life. That was their mistake. Making sure she was the best. Making sure she was so good, even they couldn't find her. Thats where they fucked up the most. She couldn't hover like the Aero's could, but she could move just as silently. She couldn't manipulate light, but she knew how to make sure she went unseen. She'd been in the army from the day she was concieved. Her father was in the army, her grandfather was in the army, all her brothers were in the army and she and her twin were in the army. From their first steps their father had taken it upon himself to train all his children for the army. There was no choice in that matter. And though Alexia was his only daughter out of five sons, she's the one who showed the most promise. By the time she was ten, she could walk completely unheard through fall leavs that would crunch under the softest touch. When she was twelve, she shoot a small flame at a test dummy blindfolded and moving and still nail it right in the heart. She had a good mind for tatics, and unlike the rest of his children, she and her twin brother were pyrokinetics like her father.

She moved through the forest in a pair of black and white camo pants, they were slightly baggy on her, and a black cami. She had boots on her feet, and her very blonde hair was pulled up in a high ponytail. Suddenly she heard voices, and she froze. She stopped to listen. One was the voice of a woman.

"Right, well; Makai, Nihil; Nihil, Makai. We were on our way back to our lovely little abode. Where were you headed off to Nihil?"

She crouched down, her uncharacteristic blue eyes looking through the brush and foliage to watch the scene between three people up ahead. She watched and she listened. She would stay there until she had to make a move. The nineteen year old pyro with cold blue eyes like an Aero peered out of her hiding spot, seeminly invisible to the world, just how she wanted it.

Blushing and running a hand along the side of his head, Makai said, "Uh, yeah, definitely glad to make your acquaintance as well." Even though he was embarrassed by the way he acted earlier, he wasn't about to apologize. Makai never apologized, unless it was something he had actually done on accident that he truly felt bad about. He hated how people would just throw around apologies for every little thing. His pyrokinetic father certainly hadn't apologized for the burn scar that cut into Makai's chest, stopping just short of his neck. Blinking to clear his his mind of the frightful memories, he said, "Come on, I'll lead the way," before picking the coconuts back up by the milk and leading them through the tropical forest toward home.

However, one of Makai's lesser strengths was grace on land, given how much time he spent in or on water, and the same root caught his sandal for a second time and he tripped again, losing control of the coconuts and sending them flying in many directions. Most of them landed on the ground or in the shrubbery, but he heard one make a weird noise close by, and he heard a sharp exhalation of breath. Turning toward the noise, he saw a quick movement and when he stood up he moved toward it.

Rounding the tree, he saw a beautiful yet vicious-looking girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. "Uh, I'm sorry," he said, kind of afraid of her expression. "Didn't mean to hit you with a coconut." Seeing the coconut on the ground near her, he used his kinesis to bring it back to him and he kind of held onto it like a tiny shield.

Alexia rose rubbing her temple as thats where she'd been hit, She'd been paying attention but she'd never expected him to fall and certaintly never expected him send a coconut flying at her face. She'd only had enough time to turn her head so she it didn't break her nose. "Yeah, whatever, its fine. You should probably learn to pick your damn feet up if you're going to wear sandals in the forest." Alexia had always had a short temper to match her firey powers, and the militairy training only helped to make it worse. She was all about manners when it came to hats off at the dinner table and things like that, but in addressing others, politeness eluded her.

"I don't usually go into the forest unless I'm riverskating," he said, furrowing his brow. He lost his fear, annoyance replaceing it. While lifting the rest of the coconuts, he asked, "Who are you, anyway? I've never seen you around here before. In fact, I never see anyone around here. Why are there two strangers in the woods all of the sudden!?" he shouted, turning between the new girl and Nihil.

Nihil sighed. "I'm here because I was trying to get away from a family of Aerokinetics who'd been exposed as my caretakers. That's what happens to people who are associated with me." His voice was hard, tinged by bitterness. His eyes fell upon the woman Makai had unintentionally hit with a coconut, and took in her blue eyes that posed an odd contrast to her apparently short temper.

His eyes narrowed; Something is unnatural about that woman, he thought, without any real conviction or attachment. What did it matter to him if something about her was out-of-whack? Right. It didn't. "It isn't like we planned to show up around the same time just to spite you," Nihil said in a level tone. The woman's remarks about Makai's sandals amused Nihil greatly, for some reason. He supposed it should've been common sense, but, then again, Makai probably had that in bulk, and just chose to wear sandals anyway. That was his prerogative.

"If you wouldn't mind," Nihil said, turning to the woman whom Makai had hit, "Would you introduce yourself? My name..." he paused, as he didn't really want to tell too many people his name. Thayet, Makai, and this woman would make three more too many, but... "It's Nihil."

Her eyes darkened for a breif moment. She recongized that name but she couldn't remember from where. When she spoke her voice was cold and distant. "My name is Alexia. Thats all you need to know." Her last name was famous, due to her family's militairy background. They'd surely know who she was and try to hand her in if she gave them her last name as well. She turned to the guy who had the coconuts. "And who would you be?"

"I'm Makai," he said, "and this is my roommate, Thayet." He gestured to the Aerokinetic, before turning back to Alexia.

"Well, Nihil is coming back to our house now. It was nice meeting you. I think." He turned around and started walking away, unsure of whether or not anyone was following him. He didn't particularly like strangers in his house, and had to admit, if only to himself, that he had an ulterior motive for allowing Nihil to come over. He figured if the girl was going to be invited, it would be by Thayet, and that would be fine. Maybe. He really wasn't sure.

Thayet tilted her head curiously as she approached the girl that Makai had just aced with a coconut. "You have the eyes of Air." Thayet said in a small whisper of a breath. For some reason Thayet was unnaturally close to the girl. She seemed to have some issue with invading people's personal space today but the people she was running into were just so damn interesting. Thayet forced herself to take a step back. "It's very nice to meet you. Don't let Makai get to you. He's just a bit...well...if you get to know him you'll understand." Thayet grinned trying to mean well. "Before I put my foot anymore in my mouth I'd like to invite you to our home as well. We were just about to have some food and well, you're more than welcome to join us." Thayet smiled before following Makai back to their home.
