UIL is all I feel like talking about in this post. XD Anywho UIL is University Interscholastic League, make sense? Of course not. UIL is something Texas does to rate band, choir, orchestra, theater, and even sports. Well I'm in band and choir and of course UIL for choir had to be on Tuesday and UIL for band had to be on Wednesday. Pain in my arse. But oh well it's all over now.

So let me explain the rating system first. It's on a scale of 1-5, one is the best and five the worst. 1-Superior, 2-Excellent, 3-Average, 4-Poor, 5-Well we never get fives so I don't know what the hell they stand for. Anyways the schools tend to base a lot on UIL and emphasize it alot. Which is really annoying. Because I'm in a 5A school (big school) we are expected to get 1s, but does that always happen? No, judges tend not to like us. Which is lame. So anyways Choir comes first.

So on Tuesday I missed all classes but first period for UIL. Which was nice because the beginning of the day was really calm and relaxing. So then it's competition time. The judges are writing a lot of comments so they're really far behind so we're behind schedule by a good 30 minutes. So we finally get to do the concert portion and it goes alright. Then we get to do sight-reading. Well on sight-reading I switch from being an Alto 2 to a Tenor, because the guys need help on sightreading XD. So anyways sightreading goes really well, or so I think. I can hear the altos really getting it (Tenors stand next to the altos) and I can hear that the Tenors are doing well (der, I'm singing there I should know...XD) we only messed up once and right after that we fixed it, just a brain fart on our parts. XD So anyways we get on the bus after we're done (we got to ride a charter bus to UIL, which was AWESOME) and our teacher announces that my choir made a 3 on stage (that's the average, there are three judges for concert, and three different judges from sightreading) and a 2 in the sightreading room. Odd considering you should either rank the same or better in concert than in sightreading not to mention we didn't deserve a 3 that was just stupid. The other choir (the one below us) got a 3 on stage too but a 1 in the sightreading room which was annoying for us in mixed choir because we're the better choir we should have scored higher, but whatever. So anyways I read the comment sheets that the judges made to find out that the Sopranos screwed up a little more than the Tenors (:o) and the Basses just were like teh suck. But oh well I got a compliment. "Yay, lady tenor!" It made me very happy. So after the reading what the judges said I got home and listened to the CD some parts were eww, but not three quality, it was 2 quality, mayhap a low 1. But most definetly a 2.

So on to band UIL. It went better I guess. Twos on stage and a two in the sightreading room, even though I didn't even sightread. XD Oh well it was better than choir. But when the scores were announced to us on the bus it was awkward because all the band kids were bummed by it but I was rather happy, I almost cheered. XD

So I think that's all...or all I can remember. UIL was very inconvient this year but that'll be another post because I'm too tired to type anymore. XD

Did anyone cry at sightreading?

My friend Taylor says people always cry because sightreading is SO intense. She cried, all of the other sopranos cried. The judges keep a box of tissues handy.

No one cried. I've never see anyone cry, people just get really mad. (Which we tend to do alot in my choir. XD) Because it's really hard here too, and really intense. It's a big pain in the arse but we do pretty awesomely most of the time. XD
