Member (-50) Posts: 17 Group: Members Member #3 Joined: January 18, 2009	I felt like making a sort of conversation about the merits of the official Pokémon style(s) versus each spriter's personal style. Official Style: Generally, a sprite made in official style will look more like a Pokémon. Dexes made in all official style look unified and professional, while ones made up of different personal styles look messy. Official style is clean and simple. Official style also, however, provides little practice in pixelart techniques. Personal Style: Personal styles vary from person to person and help define an individual's sprites. Depending on the style they provide more practice in the pixel arts and more design freedom. Sometimes sprites made in a personal style can be attacked, saying "that's not Pokémon-ish enough" (which is annoying, believe me) So, which do you prefer? When I talk about official style I generally mean D/P/Pt and R/S/E/FR/LG, but spriters for other gens are welcome to add their input.

Forum Master Posts: 123 Group: Chief Admin Member #1 Joined: January 18, 2009	i prefer personal style because it shows what the person has been able to make of him or herself. it's like a signature and they can be easily recognizable; a person wouldn't confuse one of my sprites with one of Aocom's, for example. it's a hard line to tread because you can't deviate too much or else be assaulted by 10-year-olds who think every Pokémon has to be a cute and fluffy Pikachu.
