This isn't the time for me to suddenly be indecisive about such things. If you read this, then you're in for something of a nonsensical rant.

I'm gonna start off my series of rants with the rant of movies. Don't get me wrong, I love watching a movie, and I love going out to the movies. All I'm trying to say is what the deuce is up with the movie releases of post-2000? Well, with post-00 as far as I can remember now, a majority of the movies that my girlfriend and I have gone out to see gave been terrible! Have directors run out of ideas for movies, or run out of ideas to make another sequel? Call me cynical still, but the posters that have been released have been the signs of deception to my mind. Like I said, this doesn't apply to all the movies I have seen, 300 was still a fantastic epic, even though there were no ninjas involved. However, we can all assume that we see that the design and maybe even the title of the movie could mean that it might be an interesting movie.

Yeah right. My brother went to see Transformers ages ago, and he told me what I have been dreading: There were things that didn't even add up when compared to the original. Think about it, Bumblebee was supposed to be stuck as an old-school Volksqagen Beetle, and now they butcher it with the Mustang. That wasn't that much to rant about, but with Megatron, that is something else. Transforming to another plane when he was supposed to transfor into a pistol for Starscream!? COME ON! TMNT, we should've left it so the turtles are still costumes. My childhood remnants are damaged now...

Let's not forget about Pirates of the Caribbean? First one, pretty good, I had a liking of pirates for a time there. Second one? It was like The Matrix Reloaded all over again: Great movie for the first movie, and the sequel shoots the entire movie series straight to hell. Poor storyline, everything basically predictable, and no humor or comic relief at all. I don't care what you say back to me, but if my girlfriend can't get through to me on this one, no one can.

Marvel comic characters. OK, I'm not saying for all movies here, and notably some sequels. X-Men comes to mind. X3 - I wanted some continutity here for more sequels, bring in the Lilandri, the Savage Land, Apocalypse??? Some suggestions here, and now I'm living in the rubbish bin. Punisher: As a fan of Punisher, apart from the little tidbits that made the storyline somewhat inaccurate, I liked it. So why is there no believable script for a second one? I thought there was help from Marvel here. Daredevil was bad, Elektra worse, and the Hulk took too long with no sense. Fantastic Four... As if the first one was bad enough, but they had to make multiple advertisements in the process. The aircraft was not made by Dodge, dammit! So what is it still with the suit Human Torch had with all the "sponsors". No ads in movies, PLEASE. As for Blade, at least they had Dracula. I don't care, say what you like, even about the Reapers, I'm willing to listen.

With the movie I, Robot already mentioned on the web for its notoriety of ads, let's move on to 007: Casino Royale. Two distinct examples include the lady taking photos with the Sony Cybershot camera, and don't say it wasn't obvious here, then there was the one mentioning watches, that plainly shouted out to me "James Bond does not trust Rolex watches, only Omega has the handy gadgets". Please, the only companies that were allowed to shout out products were Aston Martin Cars (DBS) and Walther (the pistol inside the glove box of the car).

Enough of advertising in movies for now, let's move on to a prime example of possible re-hashes and take-outs in movies. The current movie titled 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry'. Now hearing this on my radio, I heard that it could possibly be a take-out of the Australian movie 'Strange Bedfellows' about the two guys declaring that they were in a relationship just to evade the taxation office. I got nothing against people's preferences, but if you want to make a movie, make sure that you have your own original ideas. Do a little research.

Books that become movies, we all know here, have so many parts cut out from the book, that when it becomes a movie adaptation, we sometimes do not understand what in the hell is going on. You want some examples, try the Harry Potter movies, or even The Da Vinci Code.

Video games turning to real-life movie adaptations. Do I even need to say anything here?

Now I haven't covered every scale of every movie here, but you know what I'm getting at. Let the movie industry make some more movies that are actually worth paying for when you go out to the movies, or even more are just not going to care in the first place, keep pirating movies, and just throw it to the pit of other pirated goods they have managed to conjure up in their spare time.

For those who go to the movies, remember: Buy your snacks and drinks at the grocery store first, and make your own popcorn! Keep that spare cash to yourself!

Now that's all out of the way. Good day to you!

I have to agree with most of the things that you have said. I went to go and see Transformers today (after being released yesterday in the UK) and I personally found it to be a pretty average film. I am disappointed, partly because I expected more from a Spielberg film, but the film for me was just one long run of special effects sequences and explosions. I shouldn’t really complain, as I never liked the original concept, vehicles transforming into giant robots reeks of machismo (and I’m sorry to use gender stereotyping). Sorry to be a moaner but I had hope that Spielberg would have at least constructed a more complex Science Fiction storyline for the film, but instead we get Good robots vs. Bad robots and the quest to destroy a cube, with a random teen romance thrown in for good measure. Nevertheless, I recognise that the film was also aimed at kiddies, especially when considering its merchandising value.

In terms of Marvel films, most of them have been dire, especially the Hulk, X-Men 3 and the Fantastic Four. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed the first two X-men instalments and all 3 Spider-Man films, partly because of the good script writing and the fact that they introduced more character depth rather than a sequence of special effects.

I agree though, Hollywood in recent years has gone downhill. It appears that more and more scriptwriters are leaving the film industry in favour of television, which as a result we get great show that are like films in both storyline and budget, such as ‘Heroes’ and the Brilliant ‘Rome.’ To be honest I was slightly troubled by the choice of films currently running at the cinema, most of them were sequels e.g. Die Hard 4.0, remakes e.g. Hairspray (even thought I enjoyed the original, I have no compulsion to see a remake) or a film adaptation of a cartoon series which has arguably been deteriorating for a great few number of years (I’ll let you guess what that is).

I’m fussy, and I accept that. On a lighter note, there have been a few films released this year that have really impressed me, these include the Last King of Scotland, déjà Vu and Zodiac, but I can’t help but think that these films were either poorly advertised or overshadowed by poorer ‘Hollywood Blockbusters.’
