It's Christmas; (almost)

Well, after all the frantic buying and shopping (and me swearing on THREE seperate occasions that I won't be driving anywhere until AFTER the big day) it's almost time.
Over two hours of wrapping pressies for the kids and a round of drunken music quiz DVD games later...
I'm back to doing the same thing I do every year.
Sitting alone in the dark.
The only one in the house still awake (not counting the ones merely pretending to sleep!).
A glass of single malt scotch in hand.
Watching the lights twinkle on the tree.
Cascading multi-coloured rainbows on the presents stacked below the branches.
The smell of pine in the air.
Waiting.
Anticipating.
The air is FULL of expectation!
I can't wait for the morning.
First the little monsters will attack the stockings hanging on their bedroom doors.
Then they'll attack my room!.
I'll head downstairs, let the dog out, put the fire and teh coffee on and wait.
The kids will rip apart the presents under the tree and while they drive my wife silly with demands to fix things together or unpack them from the wrapping I'll retreat into the kitchen and start in on breakfast.
Smoked bacon, Tomato sausages, lamb chops, steak and eggs :D
I can hardly wait.
Merry Christmas everyone!

:D

Instant follow up post.
It's a sign that the big day has been and gone.
You can barely move in my house for toys and wrapping paper at the moment.
I had to go and buy more storage for all the damn toys this morning :D
The other sign that we've passed Christmas is the state of teh turkey.
On the big day it was roasted for lunch, and then turned into sandwiches for supper.
Yesterday the sandwiches that were left over were converted into toasted sandwiches, and right now the house is full of the smell of turkey curry (for tonight) and turky broth (for tomorow!).

generally by today, my grandmother would have boiled the turkey carcass to make gumbo with.

this year we ended up with 7 pounds of left over ham.

mmmmm gumbo :D
my dad had a similar ham problem (not quite 7lbs mind you). I ended up with a massive chunk that eventually found its way onto some toasted cheese and ham sandwiches.
Now I've got a bloody massive goose for New Years' and I'm wondering how many additional meals I can get out of that when it's all over (not including saving the fat for roast potatoes for the next month!).

We’re suffering form a major chocolate pandemic. It’s a fact that everybody in the family always receives a box (or several boxes) of chocolate! And bath toiletries for that matter. I guess it’s an excuse to over indulge ourselves, but sheesh, if I see another box of After 8 mints I’m going to heave.

This is has probably been the first Christmas when we had nothing Turkey or sprout related. We opted for fillet steak and Tiramisu this year (not together, although that would be an interesting combination). If only it could be Christmas everyday, for nothing else but the food!

And if anybody has “House Bling” (my term for OTT decorations) shame on you.

P.S. I love this unnecessarily violent smilie! Die Chinchilla! chuchop

And on that note, happy Holidays everybody! :D

Dunno about "house bling" but I decorated my desk at work...

I had the rather embarasing revelation this evening of realising that we still had some of the kids presents buried in a cupboard in our bedroom!
Soooo...we handed them out to some bemused (but delighted) faces.
Now there's even MORE crap strewn around the house *sigh*

I too love the Pikachu smilie :D

what if said bling is required by HOA peer pressure?

<_<

putting it up ones' self is cheaper than hiring the same guys who mow lawns...
