Wondo's miss was epic. The scary thing is that the offside flag was (incorrectly) waived. Now, we restarted from a goal kick but I have a feeling that had he scored the ref would have called the offside which would have been an epic screw-up on their part. Wondo bailed them out in a way. He had another chance in overtime when the ball came to his feet but he was lost as to what to do. Dempsey had one or two times like that too. I'm disappointed mostly in Bradley and to a lesser extent Dempsey. Even though Dempsey got two goals in the tournament I felt he was fairly lackluster for a long stretch of time. Bradley had a terrible tournament. No amount of criticism on the formation and his position will excuse some of the poor touches, turnovers, and ball watching. Howard is amazing. I keep hearing it was his last but I am hoping he manages to defy father time and make it to 2018. He wouldn't be the first at that age although it isn't common. And he is all class, is he not? When asked what it was like to be under siege all game he answered perfectly, "it is my job, it is what I signed up for." I guess I don't know what else he would say but it just seemed scream class. JK pulled the right strings at times and maybe left something to be desired at others. I personally don't think the Donovan exclusion is a factor considering that the subs scored like they did. Perhaps tactically it was more of an issue. But not for the role off the bench so many of us had expected. Hard to fault the subs and the choice of the subs. I think Yedlin did well for himself although I think he was a bit gassed by the end of the game today. Just had to come in too early for his role. I hate that this is over. It is so heartbreaking. It is such a down feeling. I can't imagine what the players must feel like. And while I just thought of it... that was one of the most well designed set pieces I've ever seen. That was beautifully done. Just too much pace for Dempsey to get a better first touch on it but that is something he needs to finish. That was just beautifully designed. Also, props to ESPN for showing Donovan's reactions at different parts of the game. I thought it was rather fitting they showed it side by side with JK and they both made nearly identical motions/gestures. I'm sure ESPN loved it as they obviously enjoyed playing up the "beef" aspect of Donovan's exclusion. Finally, all the credit in the world to Demarcus Beasley. That guy has been a trooper in every sense of the word. From his start with the team and his first WC in 2002 to the position change, looking like he was out of the picture for a long time, most of us at one time openly questions his ability later in his career, to this year and being the hard worker he clearly is...that man should get all the love in the world from US fans. He isn't the greatest defender in the world but he certainly held his on and played his role. He will be missed sorely in many ways. I keep watching highlights hoping one of our other shots goes in...sigh... |

Can't really comment on the entire game...as I missed the second half & extra time. Went to a AOLA bar & at the half, wanted to get a hot dog but couldn't get back in, without going on line, despite having been in before. Needless to say, I got pissed & just went home  As for the game, shocked that Cameron started in midfield, instead of Beckerman and, while Green scored a beautiful goal, Wondolowski's horrendous miss only reinforced why he's NOT national team material IMO & why Donovan should've been on the roster. Also, why was Altidore declared "ready & available" & yet didn't see action, when we needed him most? <_< Howard was ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL & the USMNT's MVP for the tournament, while Bradley was, without a doubt, the biggest disappointment! I'm SOOOO proud of the team, hope we created more fans of the beautiful game & see a VERY bright future for the program ...though, there needs to be intense work on finishing & possession, two areas that continue to be a major problem. Looking forward to Copa America Centenario in the USA...next big international tournament

Yes, Bradley's play has to not only be the biggest disappoinment of the tourney for any US player, but it also it was one of the biggest individual detriments to the team's play as a whole. Being played slightly out of position does not explain the almost total loss of touch, decent decisions on the ball, and passing. What the US team missed most in this Cup was a Reyna type no. 10 shirt. No wonder our holding and distributing midfield was non existent. The coach should have been able to come up with a better answer pre-cup for that drastic shortcoming it seems to me. (no, I don't have the answer, but I'm not getting paid millions to come up wiht one either.) Zusi, along wiht Jones, should have been subbed out sooner in this one. And Zusi's sub woudl ahev been easier to make. On the positive side, Besler, Beasley, and of course Howard, were superb throughout. Yedlin and Green speak well for the future. Beasley, what a tremendous group of games! |
