So, would it be poor of us to agree with Germany to kick the ball off and then all sit down and play cards for 45 minutes. Then repeat the same during the second half? |

Well, it comes down to this one. We will have to earn it. Germany is a tall order. I would be concerned about the turnaround time to get ready. It really takes a 48 hrs period to start feeling halfway normal after a match like that in the jungle. We looked fit considering the circumstances, but Germany has an extra day to recover. It will be fun, I hope. Four points after two games is more than most of us would have predicted. Will it be enough? |

It's not in either team's or nation's DNA to play for a tie. And, yes, I remember 1982 (W. Germany-Austria), but the rules are different now with simultaneous kickoffs. I also expect that Klinsmann and Loew would like nothing better than to beat the other. However, if it comes to approximately the 80th minute, you may see both teams settle if the game is tied. |

Agree with shelsoccer...if the game is even around the 75th minute or later, definitely see both teams "taking the foot off the pedal" but feel it would be a mistake for USMNT to come out in "bunker form" & play for a draw, from the beginning. However, being a Klinsmann-coached team, don't think we have to worry about that

Two points here. First I don't think Klinsmann will want a draw. Listening to him during his presser, he is saying he wants the 'W'. Also the Germans are finding Klinsmann irritating. I think Klinsmann has a bone to pick w/ the German public. Something about Low being the main reason for the success of 2006. Klinsmann wants to show who Da Man really is. Secondly, Low will play Lahm again in the midfield. Not sure why, but the German defense is slow. I can see Beasley & Johnson getting forward to cause great harm the German defense. I can see The Yanks winning this group!!! Yes I Believe We Can Win!!! |

You make me feel better, robdog. Thanks. I am truly nervous. I just hope we aren't cursed by the Bornstein-Johannsson Syndrome by the Soccer Gods. You know that thing about karma? Plus, we snuck into the knock-outs in '94 and '02. Will our luck hold? Will we earn our way in without help? Go Yanks! |

As expected no Altidore for this game but we saw against Portugal that Klinsmann devised a pretty good strategy to play without him. Germany's defense is vulnerable but by the same token so is the US'. I'd like to see the US go at Germany early and get a quick goal, then this time not sit back as that was the mistake the US did versus Ghana and Portugal did on Sunday against the US. Look at Italy today against Uruguay, they played for the tie they needed to advance but then Marchisio got sent off and Italy's plan went to pieces and now they are flying home. You should not be too cautious in the opening hour plus of these games. |

I read no team who has played in Manaus has gone on to win their next game. Not a good omen there but the sample size must not be that large, hopefully Klinsmann and his boys will reverse that trend. Martin, I also think you are correct, you cannot play for a tie which is the mistake Italy made against Uruguay. Klinsmann I think knows that. The players I fear for Germany are Muller, one of the most astute players on the planet and Schweinsteiger, who came in off the bench against Ghana after an injury layoff, and stabilized Germany's midfield. Bradley will definitely need to give Jones and Beckerman some help on Thursday. |

No doubt that Michael Bradley is THE key to victory...he played better v Portugal IMO but still far from his best! What is everybody's starting XI? Here's mine: ----------------------Howard---------------- Johnson----Cameron-----Besler------DMB -----------Beckerman-----Jones----------- --Zusi--------------Bradley------Bedoya-- ---------------Deuce------------------------ I struggled a bit with putting Brooks in for Cameron but believe that Cameron will bounce back with a solid performance. I I BELIEVE I BELIEVE THAT I BELIEVE THAT WE I BELIEVE THAT WE WILL WIN!!!

You have to think Cameron will step up and respond positively. But you can't count on it. I'd start him, but the very first shakey play out of him I'd sub him out so fast it would make his head spin, as a guy who had just proved he was too snake bit to be able to perform adequately. He only gets one more brain dead play and he's done, period. Here is a great link for the different permutations for tomorrows Group G. Notice the odds against the US winning or even tying. pretty bad. don't read it or believe it USA team members! I believe we can and will tie the match. And that goes well against the odds. http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/how-the...vancement-odds/ |

Given both the conditions in Manaus and the extra day of rest for the Germans, I have real concerns about running the same crew out there for a third straight game. Of course some of this is limited by roster selection, ie there's no Feilhaber to spell Beckerman if KB's 32 year old body is starting to feel it. Mix doesn't provide enough defensive bite and I don't see Cameron moving to midfield. One thing Bob Bradley didn't do very well in South Africa was using his whole roster, I hope JK sees the value in some fresh legs out there. |

Roos, that is a good point about playing the same players in a 3rd straight match in these conditions and with limited rest. I don't see wholesale changes but would not be surprised by a change or two in the lineup. You know Klinsmann might have a trick up his sleeve for his buddy Joachim Low. A good piece on the US' German-Americans. |

The US starting XI: Howard, Beasley, Besler, Gonzalez, Johnson, Davis, Jones, Beckerman, Zusi, Bradley, Dempsey Cameron and Bedoya dropped, in come Gonzalez and Davis. It has been raining like crazy in Recife, not sure how well field will hold up. Look for a game with plenty of crosses and long balls, might suit both Gonzalez and Davis. Anybody smell a tie? |

It seems like we've come so far from the rumors of players fighting and turmoil in the locker room... ...I know we, as fans, will find everything to critique and nitpick but we should also step back and realize what we just accomplished. We'll also find every reason that we didn't make this happen but that an injury elsewhere, a red card somewhere, or a goal by another person... We've now advanced in three of the last four World Cups. We did it this year in the Group of Death with two teams ranked in the top 5 of the world. We did this with our main target striker injured for the majority of the group stage and our "most important player" not clicking fully. We'd likely praise the coaches and players of some other nations for dealing with this adversity. I know we will find the flaws and discuss them but don't let that overshadow what took place over the last two weeks! There were more than a few predictions of "zero points, zero goals" for us. |
