Dempsey said to be good to go for Sunday:
http://soccer.si.com/2014/05/29/clint-demp...smnt-world-cup/

My top desires for this game:
1) Get a run-out with Dempsey
2) Altidore continue to play with strength, but stay closer to goal and bang one home
3) Keep it clean and no mistakes on the defensive end (particularly in the first 15 minutes); use the same central pairing
4) Jones maintains the defensive discipline shown vs Azerbaijan and no reckless challenges; or will it be Beckerman?
5) Any change at left back in the cards - or is Beasley what we're going with?

Thats a bit odd, af10, you don't even think Jones will see the pitch?

I think James sets out realistic goals to see if they can be achieved on Sunday.

Watching how Dempsey/Altidore team up, whether Johannsson can contribute again and the left and right back situations are the likely things to watch for the US.

Turkey should provide a good test.

Agree with James as well, but hasn't JK seen enough of Josy to know everything he brings to the table? Let's see what Johannsson can do with a ton of minutes.
Probly won't though.

It is just that Johannsson seems more of a 2nd forward rather than a player comfortable operating as a center forward who will be required to play with his back to goal. gaffer discusses this a bit in his post in the Azerbaijan match thread. Even Wondolowski is more comfortable playing off another forward so with Boyd sent home I think Klinsmann is putting all his cards on Jozy Altidore somehow recovering his form and being the US' #9 in Brazil.

As for Jones, I'm thinking JK knows what he has with Beckerman. He probably "wants" to see Jones instead but he has to see what we've all seen with Beckerman and his positioning as it helps Bradley.

I think JK throws Jones out there again and says "prove to me you can maintain discipline."

Jones does have something to prove at the back end of a diamond midfield. Beckerman plays there for RSL, so JK does know he can handle that position.

However, at some point, JK needs to decide who he's going to battle with and get him settled in that position. That's assuming JK is going to stick with the 4-4-2, diamond midfield. Let's hope he doesn't decide on a 3-6-1 at the last minute.

Not a Jones fan, at all...and would like to see how effective Bradley can be with Beckerman as his midfield partner.

Of course, my lineup is MY wish...I know JK will have Jones in the starting XI <_<

No! No 3-6-1 !!!!!

I imagine with the diamond midfield that they have been working on correcting responsibilities and spacing all through camp. I don't imagine there's time to switch schemes at this point.

1-0 US thanks to an excellent give and go goal between Fabian Johnson and Michael Bradley with Bradley flicking it over the defense and Johnson finished with a first time volley.

Overall the US playing very directly but looking good offensively, even Altidore looks very active but defensively they don't look as good. Lots of space in midfield as the midfield diamond still needs some work I think.

Here is the US lineup:

Howard; Johnson, Cameron, Besler, Chandler; Zusi, Jones, Bradley, Davis; Altidore, Dempsey.

Chandler at left back, Johnson on the right, so far Johnson looks excellent, Chandler less so but neither he nor Davis supplying all that much on either end on the left side. Lets see what the 2nd half has in store, so far an entertaining friendly and definitely a much better test than Azerbaijan.

2-1 US. A late Turkey penalty made it 2-1 but overall a very good test for the US. Better play than against azerbaijan, but still some sloppiness at the back. Chandler set up the 2nd US goal with a cross the Turkish defense miskicked and set up Dempsey for a tap in but as we discussed after last week's game Chandler does nt seem too comfortable defending at left back. I say he is a betetr right back but right now Johnson is better than he there.

I still do not see what Klinsmann has in mind about Yedlin and Green, each of whom just look too young to be contributors. Brooks, on the other hand, came in at the half for Besler and looked OK.

Turkey may not have had all their top players there but they gave the US a good test which is what the team needs and Klinsmann has some things he needs to work on especially in defense and midfield.

Jozy Altidore was active but still cannot score, twice he was alone on the goalie and hit it right at him. The US will need better finishing than that from Altidore.

Beautiful combination work by Johnson and Bradley. For me the US is good going forward but vulnerable defensively. Tim Howard will be required to do a lot of work in order for the US to be successful in the World Cup.

Turkey's ball possession gave the US the chance to counter attack which is what they will need to do in Brazil. And the US can be an effective counter attacking team but no doubt the defense and defensive midfield needs sorting out. Offensively playing Bradley ahead of Jones or Beckerman is effective but defensively it is not, something for Klinsmann to ponder.
