Azerbaijan - May 27 (Candlestick Park, SF) Turkey - June 1 (Red Bull Arena, NJ) Nigeria - June 7 (EverBank Field; Jacksonville, FL) Like our last two opponents but not sure about Azerbaijan? Couldn't we find a "better & more quality" opponent? <_< Nevertheless, I plan to go to the Azerbaijan game...looks like the LA chapter of the AO is looking to do another bus trip to SF, like Phoenix...and it's supposed to be the last sporting event in Candlestick Park, before it's demolished. Thoughts on the opponents? Who would you have liked to see the USMNT schedule, instead? |

While Nigeria is a good approximation of Ghana, I don't see either Azerbaijan or Turkey approximating Portugal or Germany. I'd have preferred a S. American team and Austria or Switzerland, on their way to Brazil. |

Also agree. A very uninspiring trio of teams for the USA send off. Nigeria is always a tough challenge and the others may or may not rise up to the occasion, but blah, blah, blah. This was the best the USSF could do?

I think both Turkey and Nigeria are good opponents for the US, skillful, competitive teams who will test the US before the World Cup. Azerbaijan are not great opponents but 2 out of 3 aren't bad and frankly in these pre World Cup matches the main thing is avoid injuries, work on combinations of players and try not to show too much to your opposition. Frankly I'd rather the US player Azerbaijan, Turkey and Nigeria in these warmups instead of facing say Spain, Italy or Argentina. |

Agree with you, Yogi...still, would've liked Sweden over Azerbaijan. |

Azerbaijan, an opponent to build up confidence (hopefully), Turkey and Nigeria, teams which will test the US. To me these opponents are adequate enough for these pre World Cup matches. Now Klinsmann has to get Dempsey and Altidore in form. |

I'm more with Rufus on this. I worry less about finding acceptable stand-ins or stern competition in preparation for the group stage as I am the team gelling, getting partnerships cemented, guys going to Brasil knowing their roles and relationships. I wish either this state was smaller or I was more of a road warrior. I'm not sure I can see making a four hour trek up I-95 to Jacksonville for a friendly, even for the finale of the sendoff series.

Ha! I'll be sure to take a selfie and post it on snapchat. No, this isn't the first, and won't be the last time my intense dislike of driving will factor in to my missing attending something-or-other. Going to the Jamaica game and seeing you in KC was a blast. Trying to do this would just be a lot of stress. The advent of HDTV of course makes these kinds of decisions easier.

Roosevelt, you need to find a neighbor or friend and have them drive! Chip in for gas and next thing you know you will be in Jacksonville. (Don't you just love the free advice we all are giving you! ] By the way, why Jacksonville and not some other city in the region like Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, Orlando or Tampa? Other than the late, not so lamented Jacksonville Teamen of the old NASL, I cannot think of many soccer events associated with Jacksonville.I do not have any problems with the three US opponents and actually I think the Nigeria game actually may be the least intense of the three as both World Cup teams may be unwilling to risk too much so close to the big event. It is Turkey with a skillful set of good players and World Cup and Euro Cup semifinalists in the last 12 years which may end up being the US' best test as Turkey tries and preps for Euro 2016 qualifying starting this September. |

Azerbaijan just nipped the Philippines (and Thomas Dooley) 1-0 in a friendly in Dubai. |
