I agree with Vince's points. I'd particularly highlight Gonzalez's weakness on set pieces (as well has befuddlement when Mexico brought on a second striker after the half), Donovan's weigh,t and the need for both Jones and Beckerman. I don't think the latter was ever in doubt when it came to the final 23, especially when you factor in that one of them is likely to going to be out on cards at any given time. I do fancy Beckerman at this point. Btw, I do not like the new uniforms. I seem to remember eating some popsicle treat when I was young that looked like that. |

I think this is a perfect example of when a replay should be used to right a wrong. I don't agree that is was obvious that he was one at full speed but I think replays showed he was level with the defender. Even on replay it was close but there is enough to show he was onside and the goal should count. We may not see replay like that in WC14 but I bet we have a big call this year that all but secures it for 2018. And if we want limit the usage of it perhaps only goal scoring chances will be reviewed? Meaning, if a goal doesn't directly result from it we don't review it? The details can be worked up but that is exactly the call that can change a World Cup. If that knocks a team out of the opening round...that is a big deal. |

I think those were called Rocketpops shel. I'm not a fan. I think mainly because it was throwing me off to see the red such a dominant color. But I actually like the 94 star uniforms...so what do I know. |

Quite a day & night in Glendale, Arizona...first, I actually survived, without medical attention & remembered most of the game The American Outlaws represented well but were badly outnumbered...wasn't surprised but it's pretty sad that, even in Arizona, USA fans are the "visitors" when playing Mexico. It was like 75/25 ratio, for Mexico <_< As for the stadium, it's very nice...though, not quite "Jerry's World" (the stadium in Arlington, Texas)...and the Jobing.com Arena, where the NHL Coyotes play is nearby! Outside of that though, there really isn't much to see, lol. Ok, the first half was an absolute masterpiece...on the level of Picasso  ...and Michael Bradley, yet again, showed why he, and not, Dempsey or Donovan, is the MIP of the USA! Most Important Player. Was shocked that Donovan didn't start & didn't know the reason...until today. As great as the first half was, the second half was quite poor...until late in the half. Was near the concession stand, when the "disallowed" goal happened & didn't know it was ruled such, because I went to buy a quick snack & thought we had regained the lead, 3-2! Imagine my surprise, when I noticed the scoreboard still had it, 2-2. The biggest BS call that I can remember in quite some time  Julian Green looked pretty good...but he's not ready for "World Cup primetime" just yet. Really starting to wonder about Omar Gonzalez...he hasn't played all that great for the Galaxy, either. FWIW, I'd be fine with a Goodson/Besler pairing at CB & hope that JK plays that combo in the Send-Off series. Despite the result, it was an amazing atmosphere, intense & thrilling game, and great to meet very cool USA supporters. We were actually joined on the bus ride to Arizona by an ESPN crew...and will be featured in a special documentary, specifically airing during the WC, I believe. GREAT times...but still wish we had won & not happy with the "offside call"

The first half play has sold me on the US using a 4-4-2. Bradley, wow, that was some first half from him. As good of ball movement as I have seen from the US, maybe ever, in that first half. Some subs, a change in Mexico's tactics and more concentration from El Tri changed the 2nd half. C'mon af10 how can the offside call on Johnson be one of the biggest BS calls you have ever seen when the replays show the call could have gone either way? A good friendly and let us see how many bubble players earned themselves another look in the final set of warm ups? Does Omar Gonzalez' struggles open up the possibility for Michael Orozco? |

I don't think that call could have gone either way. Well, technically it could have in hindsight, they got it wrong. But replay is clear he is onside. You can even see Johnson find the last defender and played that perfectly. It is a shame the refs missed that call as it was played perfectly from the players end. Oh well. (And they missed the foul on Green outside the box.) |

You guys are complaining about a call in a friendly? No need to get worked up over that. By the way watch the replays, Johnson's head and shoulder are behind the last defender. That to me=offside. Start Donovan, add Howard, left and right backs and Altidore and that could easily be the US team to debut vs Ghana in the World Cup. Michael Bradley is the most dynamic midfielder I have ever seen from the US. |

Ok, not as obvious as I thought, at first...but a BAD call. There's no way that was a 50/50 call...and, yes, I'm bias...but, come on  |

I believe some here were alluding to the possibility that because LD didn't start it may have been some sort of warning sign or indicator from JK. Don't have the time to re-read all the subsequent posts, so this may be old news to some or all of you, but that wasn't the case. He was suffering from tendonitis and had a tentative week of practice leading into the game, so he wasn't at full speed. |

Brad Davis is starting to look like Ryan Giggs's little brother. And I don't mean skillwise. Can't post a link here, but some Wall Street Journal blogger is openly speculating that LD could miss the plane for Brazil. |

All I can say is, if true, that would be a huge mistake imo. The US doesn't have a full handful of players that can bring the field vision, passing skills, overall skill and experience to the World Cup that Landon Donovan still can. Plus it is hard to imagine any negative team chemistry issues caused by him. Whatever, I don't buy it.

Leaving Donovan at home is insane. Full stop. If he is not the second-best U.S. player, he's the third IMO and he is one of the few — ever — who can change the direction a game on his own. Quick aside, I really liked the new tops for the American uniforms, but they need a different colour shorts or something. It's just way too much red. cheers, hobbes |

At this point, leaving Donovan off the team would be a major mistake. During his hiatus and the confusion that surrounded it, I was fine with the aspect of that and actually thought we were headed there. But since then, while he hasn't lit the world on fire, he has been fine for the US and we all know what he can do (and has done several times in past World Cups). There is no way he misses out now. I will go ahead and guess that he only starts of the opening round games. Hobbes, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about the uniforms. They look ok but I think the primary color should have been blue. It just looks odd to see us with red as the primary color. IMO |
