It ended up being a 22 player roster not 24 as Goff predicted but he got all 22 correct, the two players omitted who Goff named were Feilhaber and Magee so I think it is safe to say neither of them will be going to Brazil with Klinsmann. The 22 players to face Mexico:

Goalkeepers: Bill Hamid (D.C. United), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake).

Defenders: DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders), Omar Gonzalez (L.A. Galaxy), Clarence Goodson (San Jose Earthquakes), Michael Orozco (Puebla), Michael Parkhurst (Columbus Crew), DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle Sounders).

Midfielders: Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Landon Donovan (Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Philadelphia Union), Luis Gil (Real Salt Lake), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City).

Forwards: Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), Julian Green (Bayern Munich), Eddie Johnson (D.C. United), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes).

We know Rimando will be going to the World Cup as the number 3 goalie, and frankly he is good enough IMO that the US would not drop off at the position even if he played instead of Howard or Guzan.

Defensively I think this is the chance for Goodson and Orozco to show they belong on the roster while Evans and Parkhurst battle for a right back spot.

In midfield I think this game is Maurice Edu's chance to show he belongs again. I'd like to see him paired with Bradley in midfield as I think they make a good pairing better than Bradley-Beckerman.

This also should be the last chance for both Davis and Gil to show they belong.

Wondolowski gets another opportunity to show his opportunism can pay off for the team, something to consider with Altidore's current slump at Sunderland.

And then there is Green, I doubt he starts but training and this game will be his chance. I think we all are curious to see what he brings to the table.

That looks like a better team than the one which played vs Ukraine earlier this month. Unexpectedly the balance of the US team has switched from being overseas based to now having a majority core of MLS players.

I am with raconteur on which players need to impress Klinsmann, lets see who can make a case for themselves next week.

Just what I was going to note, Sammy!

In the long run I don't like the idea of our best players "reverting" back to the MLS where they don't normally play with and against the best of the best, but in the short term I think it helps us quite a lot to get ready for this particular World Cup.

Of course we still need the top players to show up in top form and that questionable back line to come together in time to make a serious challenge to get out of group.

There are rumors Brad Evans may be hurt and could be replaced on the roster by Real Salt Lake's Tony Beltran. If that is true then expect to see Parkhurst start at right back.

Might also mean more of a look at DeAndre Yedlin.

More openings in the US defense as Puebla, fighting relegation in the Mexican league with 4 games left have now prevented both DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco from being released for this game. It is a non FIFA date so the clubs are not obligated to release the players and it is tough luck for Orozco especially as he is fighting for a spot on the US team (Beasley will make the team) but I think you can also understand Puebla's position as they do not want to overly exert two starters with the club involved in fighting for league survival.

I have to say I do not like this decision by Puebla at all. It is a slap in the face to the US team and especially as Lobo notes to Orozco, who could have used this game as his last chance to gain favor from Klinsmann. Making it all the worst Mexican clubs are releasing their national team players for this game. Those clubs may not be facing relegation fight like Puebla but are still fighting for the playoffs. And unlike guys with Toluca, Cruz Azul and Tijuana who will play in the CONCACAF semifinals tomorrow, Puebla, and the other Mexican league clubs not in the CONCACAF tourney, don't play again to the weekend. Thus they easily could have released Beasley and Orozco.

It is not the Mexican federation it is Puebla who made this decision. I kinda understand their point as Lobo made it- the club are fighting relegation and need their players ready to prevent that. But why couldn't they have announced this as soon as they were notified by the US of the callus for Beasley and Orozco?

Puebla could and should have handled this better, then again that is a club known throughout the years for chaotic management so this is not a big surprise. But I agree with Lobo and Tony, Puebla has a legitimate reason for not releasing the players. Relegation is a big deal and they are doing everything possible to avoid it.

Oh-me-oh-my chacal bringing one of the more meaningful links to this board in ages! You rock, chacal!!

MARISOL GONZÁLEZ, bringing new meaning to the futbol term FULLback!!!!!!

To agree with the Pueblo decision you have to first agree that releasing the players would actually have an adverse affect on them and the team for their league games. If it could have been worked out that they would not have missed a club game, then I think the decision was exceptionally poor. For that to happen, JK would have had to agree to let them come in just 2 or 3 days before the El Tri match, which I would think he would have done, particularly to get to see Orozco again.

This could work against the club as well you know? If these players are bitter or resentful about it, it could work against Pueblo in various ways. :ph43r:
