FWIW, Tottenham played in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine today in the Europa League and their match apparently went on without incident. Dynamo Kiev's game of course was moved to Cyprus. |

I remember that game, vince stravino...was SOOO pumped to see USA v Japan in Seattle & bummed, when Japan pulled out. However, I did go to Seattle, anyway, for the Venezuela game...my 1st & only visit to Seattle...and got to see USA v Japan in San Francisco in 2006 Personally, I'd like to see the USSF cancel this friendly & reschedule another opponent...just doesn't seem right, to play a soccer game, when there's a "civil war" going on <_< Even, if it's far away from Kiev! |

Maybe Klinsmann can use his contacts with Germany's federation to arrange this friendly to be played in Germany. After recent events, while Kharkiv is calm for now, that may not last long if the Ukrainian parliament insists on trying to de Russify the nation and alienate the majority ethnic Russians in and around Kharkiv. |

It's going to Cyprus--the Ukrainian FA announced it this morning, saying the USSF asked for a new venue. I guess with everything happening in Ukraine right now, only countries that are already divided along ethnic lines could be considered. <_< |

That's good news. Hopefully the same tv coverage can be maintained for those of us unable to make last second travel changes. ![]() I don't expect brilliant soccer from a game like this as Klinsmann brings in a motley group to play together on relatively short notice. But it's important in preparing for Brazil and, for some players, may be decisive to see whether they actually get to make that trip. http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02...litical-unrest/ |

The roster should be announced in a day or two...and I'm very interested in seeing who gets called in. |

Indeed, Winslow. At least the US Navy should be able to surround and secure that place............ |

I was pretty sure this game wouldn't be moved, but given what's transpired in the Ukraine the last few days, I guess it isn't surprising. |

The US roster is announced. Interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2014/02/27...html?ref=soccer Aguedelo, Oneywu, Ream, Williams, Shea, Spector are all blasts from the past with a wide range of upsides and downsides (and this includes age!). Cool that Julian Green gets a taste of a US camp as well. Still, the one I am most happy to see in the Red, White and Blue right now is Johannsson. |

To make it easier to discuss here is the entire roster selected for this match, Goalkeepers: Cody Cropper (Southampton, England), Brad Guzan (Aston Villa, England), Tim Howard (Everton, England) Defenders: John Brooks (Hertha Berlin, Germany), Geoff Cameron (Stoke, England), Edgar Castillo (Tijuana, Mexico), Alfredo Morales (Ingolstadt, Germany), Oguchi Onyewu (Sheffield Wednesday, England), Will Packwood (Birmingham, England), Tim Ream (Bolton, England) Midfielders: Alejandro Bedoya (Nantes, France), Michael Bradley (Toronto), Mix Diskerud (Rosenborg, Norway), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim, Germany), Jermaine Jones (Besiktas, Turkey), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht, Belgium), Brek Shea (Barnsley, England), Danny Williams (Reading, England) Forwards: Juan Agudelo (Utrecht, Netherlands), Jozy Altidore (Sunderland, England), Terrence Boyd (Rapid Vienna, Austria), Clint Dempsey (Seattle), Julian Green (Bayern Munich, Germany), Aron Johannsson (AZ Alkmaar, Netherlands). A real experimental team which is frankly a little surprising this late in the picture. All Euro based players, except for a few exceptions, and many of whom have been, as Vince noted, out of the national team picture for awhile-Alfredo Morales, Tim Ream, Jonathan Spector, Danny Williams, etc. Klinsmann is really giving these players a final chance to impress. The only non Euro players: Bradley, Castillo and Dempsey, who of course is completing a very unsuccessful two-month loan to Fulham. |

Klinsmann explains the roster decision at USsoccer.com, well he sort of explains it. basically says giving people in Europe a shot but he also wanted to maintain the "spine" of the team as he called it-Howard, Jones, Bradley, Dempsey, Altidore- which is why he called Bradley and Dempsey in from MLS. Castillo I am thinking was picked because of the lack of left backs and to give him a final chance to make a case for himself. I know nothing about Packwood, while Green cannot play, he represented Germany at U19 but as a dual citizen can one day play for the US and Klinsmann is wisely using this as a 'recruiting" opportunity for Green. Two major omissions-Cherundolo and Chandler, and their World Cup hopes dim. I find that disheartening. |

Very interesting, indeed. Surprised, pleasantly, to see Bradley included, though wonder if TFC might be PISSED Not a fan of Castillo, Kljestan or Shea <_< Glad to see Green included but wonder if he'll play, rather than just train, & would an appearance in the friendly cap-tie him to the USMNT? What I want to see but know I won't : ------------------Howard--------------- Cameron---Gooch----Brooks---Ream -----------Bradley-----Mix------------- Bedoya--------Dempsey---F. Johnson -------------Altidore-------------------- Subs: Guzan, Morales, Williams, Jones, Agudelo, Johannsson, Green. |

I really wish Klinsmann would experiment with the spine... don't like it at all, won't get out of the group stage with current spine. I hope he changes it around for the second half. As for Chandler, I pretty sure is still injured, beginning of the month he had an injury that took him out for 8 to 10 weeks. Glad to see Gooch in the picture, hope he does well. |
